This is the draft-for-comment of a revision of the EFB AC applicable to Part 121, 125, 135, and Part 91, Subparts F&K. There might be some tangential effect on vanilla Part 91 where this AC and AC 91-78 (EFBs for Part 91) concepts cross lines. I haven't read it all but my impression is, it represents both a simplification and liberalization of EFB use. For example, the draft:

The Draft AC itself is AC 120-76D: Authorization for Use of Electronic Flight Bags, http://bit.ly/2p1MS11.
- Replaces the Type I, II and II EFB classification with classifications based on whether the equipment is installed or portable;
- Classifies apps as Class A & B based on the criticality of function. For example, a copy of the regs is Class A (non-critical), but digital navigation charts are critical;
- Removes some of the restrictions on using "own ship" on the EFB display;
