I'm window shopping for my first airplane and Looking at partnership or sole ownership options. Say I get something inexpensive like a Cessna 120/140 for $20k equip basic VFR. I prefer to fly solo most of the time so a two seater low and slow would be my type of flying. I will rent if needed to carry more pax.

So given the above aircraft equip for VFR with basic transponder what would it cost to be abs compliment given I fly in class d and maybe class b airspace?

I forget, but there was a company with the all in one option, even would hide your personal info when set to 1200, unit was like 2-3k, forget the make, but they also do experimental stuff.

FYI a C120/140 is a great choice for a fun bombing around plane, I got some time in a decked out 120 and had a ball with it. That said you might be looking a little over 20k for a sweetheart one.

I believe L3 has a unit that strictly brings the aircraft up to ADS-B compliance for about $2,200

I would wait till 2020 for the purchase... IMHO...

Rumour has it that you'll have a hard time getting an appointment at the shop if you wait that long.

Still TBD though, I guess.

like James said, go with an all in one unless you already have a WAAS GPS. Otherwise, a KT74 or similar would be a good transponder.

The all in ones I'm seeing are in the 3k neighborhood plus install.

Sounds like the unit Navworks offers, 600-B. With options it comes in at about $2500. Appero also has a transponder with ADS-B out in one box for $3500.

The L3 is the hot ticket in my book beecause it has a traffic display and weather. You'll need an MFD or panel mount GPS like a 650 430 or 440 to do that.

I have a GDL88 but if I did not have a 430, the Lynx would be my purchase.
