Most of us don't have enough information to be sure. However, it still likely gains entry to a cell using the ACE receptor on our cells surface with a matching protein on the virus crowns. I understand that the vaccines target this protein in the crowns. Too much of a mutation of the crown proteins means the virus can't gain entry to cells as easily and is detrimental to spreading the virus. My opinion at this time is that the vaccines should still work on the new variant(s).
I haven't seen information indicating that people who have been exposed to COVID-19 have been sickened by the new variants, neither have I seen data showing immunity to the new variants. We just need to wait for good scientific data to emerge.
