As the flight continues, our heroines scan the countryside through the haze for signs of Route 66. All of a sudden the radio crackles! A voice that sounds strangely familiar declares his position somewhere out in the soup. He says that he is an Extra. Extra what? the girls wonder. It is a mystery.
The blueberry Citabria begins to circle over the highway. Around and around it circles, while the Extra closes in. Now he is over the big pile of dirt. Now he is over the turkey houses. Still he does not see the Citabria, and the Citabria does not see him. It is a real Long Island-type haze.
At last he appears. It is Chip! Everyone waves. Chip does some kind of thing in the air that looks perilous. The east coast girl attempts to capture the thing with the camera, but is markedly unsuccessful. Still, she captures something, for the record.
And then the Extra is gone.
