A very strange one in Illinois...

I read that the other day. Could have also been circles or a stall, or even a steep turn. People on he ground really don't know what they are seeing when they look up. The pilot was a 70-ish man and it was his airplane. The two passengers were clergy from a local Baptist church.

Google map of location of crash site according to the news shows that the plane crashed near the OM & holding pattern for ILS 4. Edit: actually a few miles southwest of the OM. There is a private airport near the crash site called Springfield Southwest, IL97.

It is interesting that people on the ground really don't know what they are seeing.

I was practicing 60degree descents one time, and someone on the ground thought I was doing spins.

Not enough in that article to have even the foggiest idea what happened, other than that the airplane hit the ground.
