I just wanted to share a personal story that gave me hope for humanity with my aviation friends. My brother has been on dialysis for 4 years and he was fading fast. Last week he received a call that someone was going to donate a kidney and the donor wished to remain anonymous. His surgery was successful last night and my brother met his donor today. This selfless young man of 24 is a Charlotte cop, married and from what my bro says, is just a wonderful man. The donor didn't even know my brother was a cop also. I can't imagine doing something so selfless for a complete stranger. Well, our family has a new member now.

Doesn't that shorten the donor's life? If the donor's good one goes do they go to the top of the list?

Cool story! There are good people out there, it's just hard to find them sometimes.

Awesome. Wish them both a speedy recovery so they can get back to streets and make a difference

Thanks everyone. After so many calls and disappointments, it's truly amazing how this happened. Sadly my brothers policing days are over because of the damage from so many surgeries, but his hero will be back to work soon. At 24 I couldn't imagine being so selfless, especially for a stranger. Once he is well enough, he wants to go flying with me for the first time. Now we can find a nice airport restaurant and he can eat anything.

Great. Take him up and and go for that 100$ burger

Wow, that's quite a lot to go through, especially premeditated like that, for a complete stranger.

I don't even know how one would go about paying something that large forward.

God knows I'm not religious, more spiritual if anything, I'd say your friend has a important future to fulfill, if life pulled a hail marry like that to keep him here.

This.

When someone gives this much to keep you out of the grave, the least you can do is earn it every day.

Shouldn't, you have a spare. Something happens to the remaining kidney you're in dutch, though. My old man only had one for half his life.

The procedure to get the thing out must be involved, but putting it in isn't so bad.

A former coworker is on a recipient's list to get a new kidney, as his are failing.

He was talking one day about the transplant procedure, and said on the recipient, they usually don't bother taking the old kidney out. They just leave the old ones in place and "wire" the new one up.

That's very interesting, and something I never knew.

I am given to understand that it comes out the back and in the front. Fewer muscles in the front.
