Hi everyone!

I’m fairly new around here, so apologies if this post feels a little clumsy—I just thought some of you might enjoy it.

A few years ago, I designed a LEGO version of one of my favorite bush planes, the Cessna 185 Skywagon, complete with detailed features and working flight controls. What began as a fun side project turned into a pretty solid build and, as it turns out, a neat way to introduce kids (and curious adults!) to how control surfaces and flight physics work.

That’s why some friends encouraged me to submit it to LEGO Ideas, the platform where fan-built models can be picked by LEGO as the next official set. To my surprise, it’s gathered a lot more support than I anticipated, and it is now only about 1,300 votes away from being reviewed by LEGO as a potential box set for store shelves. So if you’re curious, feel free to have a look (I'm not allowed to post links right now but LEGO Ideas Cessna 185 in your favorite search engine should get you there in one click).

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and my apologies again if posts like this aren’t usually shared here.

Wishing you all clear skies and smooth landings!

Nice. I'll buy one. I bought this one and put it together. It now sits on my bench in the hangar! It has a button on the side that you push in and out and the prop turns and the cylinders even move. When you turn the plane upside down, a gear moves and the engine stops working!

@Bryan Alexander, is your 185 listed on any of the MOC sites? I seem to remember that some of them can send the parts list straight to BrickLink.

I'd love to share the designs right now, but unfortunately, as long as my submission is gathering votes on LEGO Ideas, I can’t provide any building instructions or part list. For some reason, that would make my submission ineligible. For now, I’m hoping we can convince LEGO to create an official, Cessna-branded set. If that doesn’t happen, yes I’ll eventually share it in a remote future—so many people are asking that it would feel selfish not to

That’s wild that it has control surfaces, prop/pistons, and wheels that swing and operate! Check out the video.
