Pre-takeoff checklist
I’m always game for a good mystery. Therefore when we where driving along and found a crashed airplane I immediately wanted to go back and check it out. I felt like a detective looking at the wreckage path and trying to imagine what happened to the aircraft. I looked inside the aircraft and most of the radios were still there. About the same time I noticed a date painted on the outside of the aircraft…less than a week before we discovered the wreckage! In the end I guessed the plane had exausted the fuel and not made it to the airport because of no evidence of a fire and the close proximity to the airport. Interesting enough the name of the airport was deadmans cay airport.
It turns out the plane was stolen by drug-runners and ran out of fuel as they were being pursued by the authorities. We were told the men were caught soon afterwards…
