A "Bold" Student

Why would the instructor endorse him for the checkride with 0.6 hour instrument training?

Betcha a buck there was no endorsement in that log book. And, don't you know the examiner would have gone postal on the guy if he did make it.

Unless the student set up the checkride without the CFI's knowledge the CFI is not without blame. Not all the blame, I don't think anything worthy of any enforcement action, but some fault lies with the instructor.

Take your pick. Hocky, Hacky, PFlemming,

Probably PFlemming. I believe his story all started with a checkride.
And I think his next thread was about flying VFR into IMC.

Let me check my ignore list

I might've read an article about this in Flying a couple of months ago. It's where supposedly DPE told student go come only if conditions improve, but there was some kind of apparent miscommunication and he possibly took it as a prediction that conditions will improve.

Like the others have noted: it's odd that he was on his way to the DPE when his logbook showed he didn't have enough instrument time. Either he jumped the gun on his own and had no endorsement or faked it, or his CFI missed it.

Or... There was going to be an adjustment to some of the numbers in the logbook when he arrived at his destination.

My CFI and I went through line-by-line to verify the numbers were correct before we filled out the paperwork for the checkride. There were going to be no adjustments later. Maybe some CFIs are different.

I wasn't talking about a legal adjustment...

Yeah, just keep practicing your CFI's endorsement signature, you could save a fortune in training costs.

I've known a few guys who got antsy and jumped the gun on scheduling their checkride before they were really ready. They're all of a similar personality, one which is overconfident and fast paced. It sounds like this guy was similar, which is too bad. I've always wondered what the best way is to get guys like this to slow down and learn that flying isn't a race. It pays to take your time and not be in a hurry.

You can't teach integrity. You can only sting the hell out of the lying cheat.

A bold student no more.

I would bet that his friends said something like at least he died happy doing something he loved.

I love flying airplanes, I loved driving race cars. I don't want to die from it, that would not make me happy.

I had a student that I would have to keep pulling the reins on. He was always far ahead in his studies, and was always ready for his lessons. Always asking questions on subjects we haven't gotten to yet. Now he flies C-130 for the National Guard.
