My dad was in Japan shortly there after flying in medical personnel, supplies, and flying POW's and others out... He would have been 107 this past August.. this generation is slowly slipping away from us

I remember...

80 years ago a little boy running, hopping and skipping down our street shouting at the top of his voice "the war is over, Daddy is still alive". I had met his Dad at the beginning of the Pacific campaign, a very young Marine 2nd Lieutenant, last leave before combat.

My Dad touched my shoulder, and quietly said "He has no idea how long it sometimes takes for notifications of death to get to the families".

Months later, his sunburned Dad did come home, and all was well.

I had two cousins on destroyers over there who soon came home.

That preschool kid made the big impression, though, I can still see and hear him. With tears in my eyes.
