There's a lot of difference between "could" and "should".
I might try that trip in a 172SP or XP.
I once witnessed a takeoff at Del Rio, TX in a 172XP with 2 good sized guys up front, 3 full grown guys in the back and 3 kids sitting in the laps of the back seaters. No way was it within W&B - but it balanced close enough and had enough power to fly. Yes, it was a cool day, and no I wasn't onboard.
