796 doing a firmware update in the middle of a flight

My 796 which is harnessed to my 650 has done this a couple of times now. It will have a note popup saying it’s doing a firmware update and be out of commission for 5 minutes. I use it for weather and approach plates. Luckily it hasn’t happened on an approach but is there any way to make this a manual operation to do on the ground? Has anyone else had this happen to them?
