787 over the Atlantic at sunrise

I think Lindbergh had the same view but from a lower altitude 99 years ago.

yea...I think he was less than 100 ft at times and his front view was blocked by fuel system.

Glad you're enjoying the journey. Tip o' the hat to you all circadian warriors, somebody needs to do it and y'all get handsomely paid for it. Wasn't my cup o tea, vistas notwithstanding.

My feet wet stuff (non-recreational at least) was all on the other pond. I still remember taking the long route and staying low, hearing the SELCAL from the civilized world, watching through the overhead hatch that 777 slowly creeping ahead, while I tended to my telegrapher b%tch duty on the right seat of the memphis belle. "Tokyo Radio Tokyo Radio.... *garbled* *curses*". Part of the origin story behind my quip: "Tumon Bay was my Vietnam...".

Anyhoo, here's some of those "redeye fun" pics from the other pond. Stay safe and Happy New Year.

There is something magical about a post crossing sunrise. It gets far less magical once the sun crests over the horizon.

Those pics are badass. I know you didn't like your time in the airplane, but looking over at four jets hanging on one wing is friggin' baller.

I guess it's my turn, although with all respect to the OP, when it comes to flying in the WOCL that Europe stuff is for amateurs. If you want to look 70 when you're 50, South America is where it's at, baby! :p

Okay I like the ones out the window looking at the wing. So I took the liberty with a little bit of help from Photoshop and AI...

Do you have a profile view in that plane for pathing down? I'd be lost without it.

Nope, but we have an indicator that tells us where we'll be (at the current descent rate) when we reach the selected altitude. I flew the E190 for a few years, and what you have is far superior to what Boeing drivers get. The MAX and 787 guys have it better than me (they have a profile view), but it's still not as good as yours.

But you get used to it. Even always having to do a 3 to 1 on the MD-80 became second nature after awhile.

I think I'm kind of spoiled.
At our company we call it the lightsaber but you just put the lightsaber on a fix and the plane paths down to it.

It's great unless you're going into Chicago or Dallas where the controllers just Yahtzee a bunch of numbers onto your flight plan 30 miles out.

yea, not a fan of Europe . I do mostly Asia and south Pacific where I get 2 four hour breaks in bunks or first class watching movies, eating or sleeping....we call it dozing for dollars. the 787 has cabin humidity control. ozone and hepa filters and cabin is typically below 6k ft, so you can get quality sleep.
