Just got in a little while ago.

Here is the quick story.

More planes than ever!

Great, GREAT WX!!

The Fredericks out did themselves

Tony still uses dog crap in his cookies

No WiFi, No cellular, No Crown!

And here are a few of my pics from this morning. I was up just before dawn to capture the best light.

I am sure others will be posting their pics too. I mostly took plane pics and not people pics.

Sorry to say that my pictures were only taken on the way out there, but for what they're worth, here they are:

IPT+Takeoff.JPG

"Well, I think I'm getting some actuals today." This is what I saw as I was lined up and about to take runway 12 for takeoff out of IPT.

IMC.JPG

"Sure enough, I can't see anything except for this stupid cloud..." I was in the soup for the first 90 minutes of flying time.

Clouds.JPG

"Now this is pretty..." when I broke out, this is what I saw.

Clouds2.JPG

For the next hour or so of the trip, I was skimming the cloud tops.

Clouds3.JPG

More pretty clouds...

Clouds4.JPG

And lastly...

What's missing here is my ILS into KPHN and what I went through once I took off heading for KAIG.

Sorry that these are surely less interesting than the other pictures that are actually of the event. :)

Here are some pics. I'll do a write-up later. 3ish hours of fighting the infamous "6Y9 '08 Headwind" and I am pooped!

Oh... And one more....

Q: How much stuff can you haul in a 182RG?
A: Enough camping gear for 4 people for a weekend and apparently a full grown man. :dunno: :D

Chris...the second picture at the bottom looks like a hay ride but WHERE'S THE HAY?!?!?!?!? ;)

Nice photos everyone.

At least some of us are sitting on it... I was sitting on the trailer itself.

I've never seen a 172 that'll true out at over 140. :)

We also had FF on the return trip, but for some reason we didn't get tracked like before.

They screwed up my tracking and you can't see my whole radar track from KAIG to KIPT, which is a shame because that's an impressive stretch in the Archer! It also said it took me 6 hours, not 5.

What I've noticed is sometimes they will get the tail number wrong, and just keep on insisting that you are that incorrect tail number regardless of how many times you correct them. If you keep track and figure out what tail number they think you are, you can sometimes find your track under that number.

This is only for VFR, of course... for IFR it better be correct!

I'm not surprised that we didn't get tracked on the return flight. I think we woke up 3-4 controllers along the way. We were dropped about an hour NE of the Mississippi River, and got picked back up NW of La Crosse, but we had some sketchy "who are you again?" type of handoffs along the way.

it helped that we flew about 5000 feet higher on the way there than the way back.

I was at 9500 ft over an area I'd been before (at lower altitudes) with no problems and they lost radar contact! Go figure.

It seems to be really hit or miss for VFR stuff. Once I flew from KGRR back to KIPT VFR, and the whole flight was tracked without issue. I wish I knew what the reasons were and how to avoid them (if possible), I like seeing my flights tracked!

Rochester Approach kept complaining about my intermittent transponder. The next Minneapolis Center sector said he had no trouble at all. I was gonna get unhappy if my brand new GTX 330 was intermittent...

Me too. I don't mind being tracked on flightaware.com at all, and wish I could figure out how to make it happen. I'd thought that going across sectors with flight following was enough, since that requires cross-sector coordination and entry into the computer - but obviously not, since neither cross-country flight this past weekend went on it.

Jay, after I dropped Jamie off I heard center talking to you. I asked them to say hi to you for me as I was switching frequencies, did they?

They did...and said hi to you from me, though if you were switching frequencies, I guess you didn't hear it.

Well, at least my message got passed on. I wasn't sure if he heard me, he got busy just as I switched frequencies. That makes me happy. :)

Ok here are my pics they will be in several posts cause there are quite a number of them:

Above the clouds
Capt Ed.
altitude
over the UP

First four are the hayride and a waterfall seen on the hayride.

Next four is breakfast at the Fredericks cooked over the camp fire the day after the BBQ.

The next series are of us all on the ATVs. The photo of Chris and I was taken in Ed's uncles hunting Cabin which was VERY VERY remote. Chris just about make it in:yes:

The next series of four include us outside Ed's uncles cabin and view from a Bluff that Chris, Rachel , kate and I went to on the ATVs with Eds Mom

The next four show views of the bluff and at one point Chris Fell off and I saved his life and pulled him back up then I slipped and he saved me.

This series is from the flight back to the Grand Rapids area and mostly show the islands ( Beaver and Fox islands ) in Lake Michigan and the views of the Lake sure of the Lower Pinnsula of Michgan.

I'll try to figure out how to post the video. Perhaps I'll put it on a DVD and on of our POA techies can get it on the board for me.

I'm glad you were there to save me. And if you hadn't saved me, I couldn't have saved you, so that means you're happy you were there to save me. My only question is -- why the heck didn't they put the camera down and help us!?!:rofl:

All the pictures have stories behind them. What happens in Sidnaw stays in Sidnaw, so you ain't getting them, but suffice it to say that you're slightly off. :goofy:

mike we probably carried the same weight about 30 knots faster

I have some videos from the flyin, too.
Mr. Greenjeans. Kind of reminds me of House!

Tony taking off in the 182RG. Note his height at the windsock!

PoAers at Hoppy's. Dizz, Jay, Paul, Jamie, Tim, et al.

Oh, he took flight that evening. He might not have flown far, but he certainly crash landed face first right past to me into that booth around the corner. He was practicing unusual attitudes and !splat!

Touched down on his nosegear first, though, but not bad for a first landing.

It was just prior to him holding on for dear life to the round table. I thanked him for stopping the bar from spinning...

He is jsut one discovery flight away from being one! :):rolleyes::rofl::rofl:

I saw him looking like he was going to have a, a, a backfire :vomit:, back never saw the crash landing.
