Is that you? Is it still flying?
Good question. Roger Peperell's book (Piper Aircraft: The Development And History of Piper Designs) doesn't say. I'm guessing it was a rough, hand-built prototype and was probably dismantled after the later, improved, pre-production prototype was built.

N9315R was c/n 28-01 (in Piper's system, experimental prototypes have a '0' prefix in the construction number), and was built with a 150 hp O-320. I haven't read anything about c/n 28-02; it may have been a static test airframe. N2800W was c/n 28-03 and had a 160 hp engine. That was the one that got the first PA-28 certification (10/31/1960); the 150 hp model followed in June 1961. The first production unit was PA-28-160 N5000W, c/n 28-1 (2/10/1961).

N2800W was repurposed as the prototype of the PA-28-180 in late 1961, and again as the PA-28-235 prototype in the spring of 1962.

It looks like the oldest Cherokee still actively registered is c/n 28-4, N5003W. That one had appeared in a 1962 Piper magazine ad.

(And no, it's not me :D)

Funny.

Today is the 32nd anniversary of the first MD-11 first flight. N601FE. Ship 447 from LGB.

I just peaked at my logbook. I have 6 flights in 601 totaling 31.6 hours. I never knew that was the first one.

I am not old, just experienced....
You remind me of an old codger I met shortly after college. He used to say,

Nope! When going places I never ever get lost. I might be confused and wander around for several days, but I'm never lost!

I swear that N5003W was on the market a few years ago and the ad noted it was the 4th ever and oldest remaining Cherokee.

The first ever Arrow is available as a rental at Red Stewart in Waynesville, OH.

N5000w serial number 28-1 is still in current registration. N5001w serial 28-2 looks like it recently sold in July 2021.
