600C Question

I picked up a 600C for the back seater and can't figure out why it is almost invisible without the back light on all the time. I've studied the manual and tried all the menu options. Has fresh batteries and still, when turned on, it is practically impossible to see anything on the screen. Adjusted brightness and contrast etc. but no joy. Turn on the back light and it looks great.
Any advice?

Leave the backlight on.

I had one of these and that is what you had to do. It was one of the biggest complaints about that unit. With the backlight on it eats batteries too!!

Turning off the terrain helps a lot if you haven't already done that.

I'll try that, thanks! I understand from several answers on another forum that they are just lousy to see without the back light and need ship power to work well. Otherwise batteries don't last long. Will probably run power to a plug back there some day but for now it isn't used much and is more of a backup if my Garmin fails.
