Has anyone every seen this type of surface cracking on a cont 470?

I don't know if the picture posted?

The cylinder wall looks like small surface cracks.

 
I can't see the picture but I'd bet you have chromed cylinders?
 
Take a look and see if there is some orange paint somewhere on your cylinders. If so then they are likely chrome cylinders. It is common practice that chrome cylinders have cracks in the surface referred to as "channel chrome". The purpose of the cracks is to hold small amounts of oil. Your engine log should provide you further confirmation of what kind of cylinders you have.
