spent 4 hours cruising around at 12,000' on Saturday, no pressurization, no 02 ...

to be fair, it was all (ok, "almost all") at 0' AGL

Mari - if white jeep had access to bluetooth, it would have phoned home and begged "come get me! I didn't sign up for this!" :)

Actually, the inaugural outing for white jeep was a success and you'll be proud to know your youngster performed well. One check engine light that I assume was from it being unaccustomed to prolonged 15% nose down attitudes... cleared up after a couple of creek crossings. :)

Glad it's getting some exercise after a long rest in my garage.

I do remember taking it up the Rollins Pass road once but that was nothing like what it has to do now!

Out of curiosity, did you have a pulse oxymeter along, and how was your O2 saturation at 12k? Any headache afterwards?

Dang! Now you bring that up! I never thought to grab my Pulse Ox from the flying bag! But, no headaches from yesterday.

I should mention that I spend a LOT of time above 10k. Some fall hunting trips I do get the headache the first day if I forget to carry additional water. Some hikes around 12k I need more than just my camelback for the day.

it's kind of funny how the camera flattens things out and tends to distort perspective. That particular shot was steep enough that I slip/skiied back down the trail to the jeep. We stopped there because we couldn't see the rest of the trail around a curve and hiked up to investigate. (Edit - we did continue on to the top).

This was a moderate set of trails, from Jefferson, CO, up and over Michigan Creek, past Mt. Guyer, down South Fork of Swan Creek, around Middle Fork of Swan and down into Tiger Run and Breckenridge.

I have a picture somewhere of my snowmobile parked next to Michigan Creek Campground road sign, protruding roughly 12" above the snow. I was going to park the jeep in front of the sign where it shows standing about 4' above the jeep, but forgot to take the pic!

Greg,

Does the CD player in your Jeep skip when you get over 11K feet? Mine does. Happened on the way up to Cripple Creek and other times when I was wheeling out there. In addition, at over 8K - 9K my dog would get horrific gas. :yikes:

cd player .... lol ... it's a jeep, man! :) just kidding... it does have a tape player (cassette, not 8 track) :) but with the top down, I can't hear the radio anyway, so ... no idea :)

I was gonna say...

Unless Greg put in a CD player the only thing it had was a cassette. :D

My 2003 Jeep TJ Sport came with a CD player standard. The farting dog was an option. :D

Time to put some air lockers on that thing, lift it at least 8", and go have some fun in Moab. ;)

Pffft, that's a road not a trail!
yeah, since the "road" was the only places we stopped, got out and took pictures. The other 35 miles of two-track was a handful at times and if I took a hand off the wheel I might have run over my spotter... :D

I didn't realize Greg bought your Jeep. That's cool, keep it within POA. :)

We can thank Kimberly for that. :D

I was pointing out that "the cheapest vehicle to own is the one you already own" when Mari mentioned "I have this jeep I never drive any more..." The trap was baited and I bit :) willingly... :D

LOL ... was the option covered by a 1/7th accelerated warranty? :D

Probably not so much ... mostly a daily driver with weekend play time. If I were to venture down that path, I would stick a small block chevy, one ton axles and extended frame on the 95... which I'm still not advertising for sale yet, and not yet getting the stink eye and dinner conversation comments like "when is that thing going to be gone?"

Seriously tho, I prefer trail running over boulder crawling.

I did too, actually. My stock Jeeps always did fine at that. Had friends who were into crawling... It's a different world. Some of the articulation they got was amazing. 3 weeks of shop time for every time they had to cut something off with a torch and limp home or be towed. And at least an AMU every time. Expensive. :)

Other friends bought up old Travelalls and beat the living bejeezus out of them. They wouldn't die no matter what you did to them. The granny gear was always amazing. Idle through anything, mthose beasts would. They usually cut the roof off.

And one civilized soul bought an Isuzu ViaCross. I rode in the back seat in town once for about 25 miles and vowed never to get back there ever again. Worse than a Mooney in moderate turbulence and about as much room. ;)

Yeah, my Jeep only has a few mods, and without lockers, body lift, sway bar disconnect, etc it still does pretty well, but not on bolders! Even with just 31's, I got to do a lot of mid level trails. Great stuff in CO.

Wait, so now Mari only has her Subaru?

Right, I'm down to one vehicle now, unless you count the lawn tractor.

Soon to be down to none when the Subaru (not the same one you rode in) goes to get its golf-ball look fixed. If it had been the old Subaru it would have been totaled.

"I could take you for a ride on my big green tractor... we can go slow, or make it go faster..." ;)

Another reason for keeping old cars! :D

Yeahbut I could rent a car for the price I paid on insurance for the Jeep, not to mention the sale price.

Sorry, I meant to keep the old Subaru so they'd just total it and you could either keep driving it with hail damage or buy your new car then. :)

When I was single, I typically kept two cars and a motorcycle or two. We sold my Excursion last fall and so now we're down to two cars (well, car and pickup), plus the motorcycles. Lower insurance, fewer vehicles to keep track of. Not a bad thing.

I did that once before with a Celica. This is the second car I've had with hail damage, not to mention the new roof I had put on last year.

As I get older I'm trying to simplify my life with fewer possessions and commitments but that doesn't really seem to be working at the moment...

We've been trying to do the reduced possessions as well. The upcoming move is prompting some of that, as well as my desire to spend less money on insurance and the costs associated with keeping something you don't need. Selling the Excursion was a good step, same goes for the Aztec. We've been selling a bunch of other stuff on Craigslist. It makes me happy to exchange things I clearly have no use for for cash.

I didn't realize you were moving. That's always a good motivator for getting rid of stuff. I always think I'm potentially going to move and that keeps me from buying stuff but so far it hasn't happened.

I didn't realize I was moving until a bit under a week ago, so we're pretty much on the same page. You're right that it's a motivator to get rid of stuff, and has certainly gotten us more motivated to get rid of things quicker (hence my price reduction on the Aztec). That said, I also have a good feeling of freedom by getting rid of stuff. In my college and early post-college days, I liked to collect stuff. Now, I very much want the opposite.

That said, I'm also still moving my church organ, which is perhaps the least-moveable item in the house. :)

Good idea! Except I'm headed north with the truck and 5th wheel. Spouse is not keen on double towing, so the jeep is staying home for this trip.

And here I think it's bad because I have a piano which I don't play any more.

Yeah, I've played this thing probably under 50 times in the 5 years I've owned it, so it's pretty poor utilization. That said, I'll probably never find another one like this (especially at the price I paid), so it's worth me keeping.

"I could take you for a ride on my big green tractor... we can go slow, or make it go faster..." ;)

Dad bought a tractor this year. Then recently reminded me that I will inherit it someday.

A) WTF would I want it for?

B) He seems to miss the concept that he had me when he was 20. If he lives as long as his father, I'll be inheriting a tractor in my mid-70s. I definitely won't give a damn by then.

Maybe we'll race it up and down the street in front of the Assisted Living facility or something. Sheesh.

There are many uses for big green tractors. We have considered purchasing one at various times (or perhaps a big yellow tractor or big orange tractor). However, the high cost and our relatively limited potential use has convinced us that we will spend our money elsewhere.
