Hello, I had just a quick question.

applied for a class 2 medical, deferred due to a misdemeanor, denied due to not providing information in a timely manner (letter was sent to the wrong address) Called, got an extension and gave them everything they requested with a letter to appeal the denial.
They removed the denial on medexpress put me into final review and within 3 weeks approved me. (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY). (This process took 10 months).

my question, I’ve never done this before. How is the process when applying for my re-issue or upgrading to a class 1? Do I have to go through that explanation process again every year? or will it just be bypassed like a one and dealt with thing?
When it asks “have you ever been denied?” Do I put yes? I was deferred, and the denial was reversed with the extension and appeal/approval and it was never a locked denial, restart process thing.

Do I use the same MID for the re-issue/1st class?

Haven’t received the letter yet, but my medexpress and faa certification look up both say

Class issued: Class 2
Limitations: must wear corrective lenses
(I have 20/40 vision in both eyes glasses get me to 20/20).

Yes, you should go to the same AME. You'll answer "yes" to ask the same questions and write, "previously reported, no change" in the explanation. You'll probably have to refresh his memory. That's assuming you got a normal issuance, and not an SI, and that the FAA letter doesn't list any additional requirements. The same AME is not a requirement, but makes it less likely you'll have to jump through hoops you've already jumped through.

Would an SI show up as SI Class or do the Si’s also just say Class 3-1? I haven’t received my letter yet but when I look my self up in both systems there’s a green check ✅ on medexpress instead of a ❌ and both say issued: Class 2

I appreciate the heads up to the AME, I’ll definitely stick with him as long as I’m within the area, he called me on his vacation to check in on me from his private cell. Really a good doctor.

I don't know what it would show on medxpress,, but it will say on the letter that comes with your medical.

This is what it looks like

Got it, no special issuance thank goodness! it does say “Due to your legal history if you are ever arrested again, you must stop flight immediately and notify us for certificate suspension”
So I likely got very lucky to not require expensive special steps!!! Very large lesson learned!

Arrested? Which means next to nothing

Shame they can’t be more just and change “arrested” to “convicted”

With as much trouble as I’ve had over a misdemeanor, I really have no idea how people with felonies are allowed to become pilots. Seems like a non-issue, or somebody lied to the doc.
I fully respect their decision though, and I don’t blame them. I’m very fortunate to get this chance.
I do wish states would accept expungements as they are interpreted.
I see zero benefits in getting an expungement if they are still going to request to know about it “or else” and then demand proof of, which exists entirely no where. I’ve done FBI print checks, state prints and even 3rd party and nothing shows. Expungements are supposed to legally return the applicant back to their legal status before the event occurred and it doesn’t. I feel like it makes applications even harder because they want records which don’t exist.
I was being hired by a police department and during the background investigation they told me, “we can’t find any record of your arrest, and because of that we can’t move forward.” So it always keeps me in limbo.
This is one of the most positive things I’ve had happen in a long time, I truly thought I was going to get denied here too.

…I do wish states would accept expungements as they are interpreted...

Congratulations.

There’s 50 states with 50 different ideas of what expunction means. Then there’s the feds, and they don’t believe in the concept at all.

Man….

I’m sorry you got caught up in all that, it doesn’t sound like the system did you right at all

Glad it’s all working out

Wasn’t there just recently a topic about some guy who became a felon for kiddie porn who sailed through getting his medical? I honestly can’t wrap my head around what the FAA takes issue with vs what they don’t care about

Do you recall how long it took from the time they received your appeal to show “final review” in medxpress? I was denied due to a medical issue and had to wait 6 months to appeal. I have now submitted the appeal after the required waiting period, and am wondering how long I have to (try to) continue being patient before I see progress in medxpress.

Because CAMI wants to be able to assess the circumstances surrounding the arrest. This prevents someone from flying under the radar because they were able to get off on a technicality or negotiate a lesser charge. The FAA Docs are looking at patterns of behavior.
