In 2022, I was diagnosed with anal cancer. I had a squamous cell carcinoma tumor that overlapped the upper anal canal and lower rectum.

I completed my radiation and chemo therapy in the summer of 2022, and for the last three years, I've been in remission. Currently still have ongoing monitoring that includes annual PET and CT scans, a physical exam (DRE) by the colorectal surgeon, and anoscope every 6 months. All scans and exams have been good for the last three years.

How difficult will it be to get my 2nd class (or even 1st class) medical back? How long will the FAA expect ongoing monitoring, or will I have to be on a SI the rest of my flying career?

CMSS:

You will need a current office visit record with the oncologist.
The biopsy and path report from 2022.
Reports of all the PET and CT scans, and comments as to the recent anoscopy (Colorectal guy).
This will be a SI each year from current through 2027, when it can revert back to "eligibility" for normal issuance.

Unfortunately with radiation as treatment, the CACI does not apply to you.

Bruce,

Thank you for your answer. A fast as the FAA moves, it will probably be 2027 before they approved the SI
