This was referenced in an e-mail newsletter I got today. This is a Taperwing, I need to find out which engine it had. The performance makes me think maybe a 450. The Taperwing was the first civilian airplane to do an outside loop, and the first to do a Cuban Eight. The story is that the Taperwing designers built the wings in secret with an M-6 airfoil and put them on a "Straightwing" fuselage. The Straightwing had an Aeromarine 2 airfoil. I have a little stick time in the front seat of a TW and it is really a different airplane. Lots of discussion pro and con in the Waco world about it.

My next airplane I think hope.

The diameter of the cowl, the sound, and the performance all lean towards a 985.

I think the Taperwing is one of the prettiest bipes. Just be sure to put an MT prop on it if you're going to snap it like that. :D

Here is the response I got to the engine question from someone who would know:

"Bob Lyjack’s airplane early on had a 300 Lycoming and later a 350 Wright."
