Some refer to today's desktop computer flight simulators as "games". This "Flight Simulator" from 1965 really was a game -- a board game, complete with dice, challenge cards and playing pieces.

The board is the WAC chart covering Southern California to central Arizona. There are four marked routes from SoCal to Phoenix, each with waypoints lettered 'A' to 'Z'. Players advance along the route by correctly answering aeronautical knowledge questions.

If I remember correctly, the game was written by a young Barry Schiff. I had one of these when they were new. It's fun to take a simulated flight back to the '60s.

This is awesome. A game approach is still an awesome way to learn.

    Thanks @Pawel for sharing.

That's great! Does it use Monopoly money with $1k being the lowest denomination?

As they said back when it was new COOL BEANS!

Even better, I suppose you could get a different sectional and use your own routes. If it asks about radials, etc, just substitute whatever is appropriate for your sectional/route.

    Cheers

Are there typos in question G 3?
If so, spell-check back then works as well as it does now. :)

    And that's why there's Ebay! ;)

Seriously, though, I remember this thing fondly. The quizzes in it helped me prepare for the Private Pilot written in 1968.

It came a year too late for me, Jeff. I got my private ticket in 1964.:(
