Regarding the recent letter we sent to the city and THC, as of today, we have not received any communication from the city. THC has stated that they cannot provide any more information until their meeting with the city on June 1.

As previously stated, we have now begun the process to liquidate the collection.

We are beginning with the simulators and the DC-6 nose.

Please see the links below for full details and photos of each one.

If you are in the Houston area and want to inspect anything further, a meetup can be arranged.

Since we currently do not have an active insurance policy, any visitors would be required to sign a waiver and release of liability before entering museum property.

If you are not in the Houston area, we can also arrange a video call.

If you wish to purchase or want to arrange a visit or video call, please contact us via [email protected] or our contact form:

Please do not call. Since we are shut down, no one is there to answer the phone.

That's a shame and I'm guessing there's more to the story as to why it didn't survive. A space like that should have been able to get enough fundraising in a city the size of Houston, especially if they did events on top of any benefactor's donations.

Yep, we just had my son's wedding reception there in December. In addition to he and I both being pilots, the other family tie-in is my older siblings went through that terminal with our parents in 1950 on their way to live in Venezuela.

Definitely a neat mid-20th century air travel time capsule. It was only in operation 14 years before a new terminal at the current Hobby terminal site was built.

Was really sad to see the first e-mail they sent out, definitely has to be more to the story.

Only related because it's a museum closing and hopefully not the case here...

The Historic Flight Foundation at SFF closed a year or two ago... Turned out the guy played a little loose with moving money around between the museum and some of his business dealings. A development over in CO failed, so the bank came after all the aircraft in the museum to get their money back.

Looks like scrap metal to me.
Moving expenses will be high.

The "News" section of their site has a couple of posts with details. Start here: https://www.1940airterminal.org/news/a-perfect-storm-of-financial-pressures

Sounds like it's due to lack of funds (no surprise). Also sounds like they're trying to work with the city. All that said, who knows. Would be good to hear the city's side of it.
