A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the U.S. government to pay $17.8 million to a family that lost four members when a Marine Corps fighter jet crashed into their San Diego home in 2008.

I don't remember this story. But glad to know that the government did the right thing and admitted liability. The husband is now $10mm richer, but without a wife and two young kids to share it with. Thats sad, but hopefully his baller status will make this new chapter easier.

It's a shame though - he is probably too traumatized about airplanes now to take flying lessons and buy himself a sweet little plane... because that is the first thing I would do if I lost everything and had a small fortune.

As you can imagine, the guy has been devastated.....this is one case where I don't mind seeing a large judgement awarded...particularly due to the gross negligence involved. But I would not expect to see this guy 'enjoying' any of that money.

From what I understand, he was a small business owner in the local community and after the accident, he just couldn't work. He shut down his business and I'm not sure what he has been doing since.
