This month marks ten years since we bought our first hotel in Iowa City, IA and started the long, strange road of building/operating aviation-themed hotels.

That's 3,650 consecutive days of delivering breakfast to every room -- one year, we were doing BOTH properties. That is a helluva lot of bakery!

It's been a great run, with no end in sight. We've met literally thousands of pilots, from all over the world, and had a FANTASTIC time doing it. THANKS! :)

Congratulations! May you be in it as long as you want and may the future be paved with gold.

I'll take a donut and coffee right about now!

The hospitality business is a tough one with today's demanding public, Congrats!

Congratulations! I went through training in Corpus Christi and fell in love with Padre Island. If I ever get down that way again (it is part of the master plan) will definitely stay at your place. Sounds like you are doing things right.

Congrats Jay- If I ever get the guts to break out of the corporate world I hope to do something similar. You Are not far from Houston. One of these days me and the wife need to fly down there for a day or two.

Congratulations. I know you have had a lot of ups and a few downs, and it all makes me envious.

I hope the next 10 years are even more rewarding than the first ten.

Jay:

Mary and you have been the very definition of guts, taking on the challenges you have, and succeeding in a competitive industry. Having sampled your hospitality, I am confident of your continued success.

And it must be said: You DID build that!

Congratulations. Texas is a long way to fly for me, or I would come check it out :)

Thanks, all.

We've had our share of interesting times, and someday I will write that book -- but for the most part it's been wonderful. If you have to choose a target market, you can do a helluva lot worse than aiming at pilots -- the smartest, most interesting, and best-looking group on the planet. :D

One more round of off-season remodeling, and another spent adding a second story to one building, and she'll be done. Then I retire to the beach!

This is the view I'm aiming for (taken night before last):

Yeah, and right after the snap you hot footed it back to the building because the ice machine was running water down the hall ;)
You can't fool me, I've been a landlord...

BTW, you realize you are one of those rich pigs who don't pay your fair share and are trying to push granny off the pier - and you have (gasp) a private airplane, to boot!

How can you live with yourself?

Jay:

Build a modest but useful conference center, contract with a couple of restaurants for catering, establish a relationship with the local golf course and some charter boats (I know you already probably have all this lined-up), you can get all kinds of small business meeting events. Need not be giant.

Gaston's? Hahaha. :)

Congrats Jay.

Can't believe I"m first one but its really 3653 days . . . .2004, 2008 and 2012 had leap days . . . along with a smattering of seconds added due to the slowing of the Earth's rotation by the drag of the Moon . . .

Congrats for those 3 extra days too!

Congratulations on your first of many decades of success in a very challenging market.
