    Fuel planning

Again, this is in the context of being an instructor, teaching a new student pilot how to plan a xc. I got tore apart by the teacher for using a higher than POH fuel burn. My reasoning being not every engine is brand sparkly new, and it’s usually better to have more gas left than you’re supposed...

    Fuel planning

I had a bit of a debate in my CFI ground class (141 school) where we were “teaching” planning a vfr xc flight for an up and coming student pilot. I applied into the “lesson” my personal smudge factor of a slightly higher fuel burn than the poh calls for which I’ve been using since day one (since...

Which ipad has the best GPS receiver?

I don’t really keep up much about this stuff, but where I’m a firefighter and been called to find lost seniors, we tend to get triangulation from cell sites suggesting where to look.

Which ipad has the best GPS receiver?

Yes, I stand corrected. Still, you don’t need to be on a cellular network to get gps (this I am sure of). Maybe not apple, but there are cellphones which do not use real gnss to give your location, they rely on the cell network.

Which ipad has the best GPS receiver?

Oh and I forgot...flightplan go had a message up not to upgrade to iOS 11.0.3 because they’re still testing compatibility with the new system, maybe that was a cause of the problem you were having....

Which ipad has the best GPS receiver?

Yes they do! Look on the Apple store, they have glonass/ gnss. Mine is not set up thru any wireless provider and works great. Cellular gps relies on the cell system for location, which is fine if you never leave the ground...

    Foreflight Cloud Coverage unreadable

Ok, 2thoughts then. First, try taking a screenshot after you open the map. There probably will not be much clarity, but you could try it. Second, why not overlay the satellite in whatever chart you’re using on your flight? Maybe I don’t understand completely, but I hope this helps.

    Foreflight Cloud Coverage unreadable

It’s especially helpful in graphing the areas of the inflight weather hazard areas heading to places I’ve never been...

    Foreflight Cloud Coverage unreadable

My radar is a decent (and free) app I’d suggest. There’s different options for how much you want to see, and it also shows airmen’s sigmets and convective sigmets. It isn’t official like duats but is helpful to see accurate radar...give it a try.

What did you do your private training in?

Ppl I learned mostly in the c152, but finished and did the check ride in a c172. Instrument in a warrior.

    New to pilot training

Hey man. Keep leaving no stone unturned. Whether you go 141 or 61 if something isn’t right between you and your instructor, remember you can always get another one...personalities clash and everyone in aviation would agree that should not be the case flying an airplane, especially when you’re...

Decomissioned VORs - why are they still on the charts?

So safetywise, here's a hypothetical. Long vfr Xc, clouds quickly building, and you realize you're lost all at the same time. Looking outside, you see a lake with nothing else around it, just a lake. You find what you think is the lake on your vfr sectional, and find a vor 20 miles away and tune...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Hi all. I started PPL in NJ at a Part 61 school and moved to school in FL for Part 141 on my GI Bill. My written is behind me with a 95%, and all I really have left is the long solo xc. I have total time of 60.6 hours, and 167 day and 14 night landings. I was all set to go for this morning...

    Something even worse than drones!

FWIW, I see this as a very similar issue as lasers. Lasers have been around for quite some time, even accessible to any retard with enough cash for most of that time. RC aircraft have also been around for a long time, but before you know it, some hockey helmet candidate will fly one "because...
