I learned to fly on a 1900 ft runway. Did sooo many go arounds (necessary as well as practice) that it became second nature. That said, as a result of that confidence I haven't practiced them in awhile. Think I'll get some practice in after my 172 comes out of annual next week.

Well, I'd really like to get a useful load of 475 lbs. That would work comfortably with a full (13 gal) tank and me and the wife. (That is if I dont lose weight! OK - I'm on it!) So this guy claims 474 lbs AFTER 13 gal? That's huge - if accurate. Even if he's off 75 lbs it works well. I...

I'd somehow have to make sure of that empty weight - whatever it may truly be. Is it hard / expensive to get a Champ weighed??

He says it was weighed after it was re-covered (in 1993) and the empty weight was 668 lbs...... ??? I'm corn-fused. Looks like a pretty bird. I'm a big guy and am interested in this extra useful but I just want to make sure every wing spar is there, etc! :o)

I thought it was something like that! Skyhawk kinda the same thing I believe. But I just can't figure out what accounts for the lower empty weight on this Champ. He doesnt have a parking brake either but that can't be it. Can it?

Turns out that this Champ doesn't have cabin heat. Would that be enough to account for the useful load disparity? I also wonder how difficult and how much it might cost to put heat back in??

I'm looking at an ad for a Champ that claims a 552 lb useful load? (Lord knows I need it!) But isn't that unusually high? Engine is a Cont 65
