I got the commercial ticket at 54. I'm certainly not going to fly airliners but it never hurt's to increase the knowledge base. And I just wanted to do it.
I wouldn't say it's "pretty darned easy", but it is shorter in terms of training hours. Easy makes it sound like the FAA gives away...
I go to Sunriver annually for my family's reunion. You're gonna love it. It'll be well worth the small fortune. Great little airport and resort community. Take your clubs if you're a golfer.
Can't help you with routing as I fly up from SoCal. But the PNW has some of the most beautiful flying...
Spend a few extra bucks for a Garmin 196. You won't be sorry. It's still supported by Garmin whereas I don't believe the 195 is. 196's are pretty cheap on ebay. I had a 196 for a long time but wanted color and terrain so I upgraded to a 296. But the 196 is a fine unit.
It did show up about 2 weeks ago. Sat for 2 days on Lake Elsinore ready to go. I talked to the crew and they were just waiting for orders while houses burned. Finally started using it on the Ramona fire. When I'd watch it go overhead, it appeared to be going painfully slow due, I'd guess, to...
A more uninformed opinion based on a total lack of knowledge and facts does not exist. Come on out to SoCal and I'll take you on a tour of the airports AOPA has, along with local efforts, saved. It will take most of the day. There are many, but even if it were only one, it would be worth my...
This was sitting in Lake Elsinore today awaiting orders. I talked to some of the crew and they were ready to go. No one knew what to do with this aircraft, so houses burned while it sat. California firefighting politics at their best.

Just another AOPA bashing thread. That's what you tried to turn the lost thread into also. Get a clue. Do something positive yourself before bashing the only PAC general avaition has. What have you done for GA lately? :dunno: Thought so.
You don't read the front page of AOPA's web site very often do you? Today, out of 14 articles on the front page of AOPA's web site, 2 out of 14 were in regards to user fees. Finding other things GA within AOPA's realm of advocacy is easy if you'd look. And when you say, "Probably EAA", it means...
Well hold onto your yokes when Sherri comes charging through that formation in that 182. She'll be doing turns around a 140, 150 and DA-20.:D
I just gotta worry about Frank doing turns around a Cherokee. :P
As for places to eat lunch, I vote for Barley Bros. Brewery and grill. Good food and...
How about Havasu? Isn't the IHOP there near Wal-Mart? I'll buy you some free pancakes for a ride from the airport. Or does D2 aero have a crew car? I'd much rather fly than go to work on a Tuesday. :P
My thought exactly. Traded the wife in long ago, kept the kid, the house, and eventually bought an airplane. I may have been put in a higher tax bracket, but I was still able to increase my flying budget.
