Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

Well, the original question has become somewhat moot. I am no longer flying with that instructor. That does not make the situation moot should it ever arise again with any instructor pilot working with me or anyone else, I suppose. Unfortunately, I am not actually flying with another...

The trouble with flying videos on youtube..

I take it you're not of celtic extraction, hmmm? At any rate, not everyone equates flight with frenetic. Vocals or instrumentals.

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

However, there is a considerable difference between losing altitude quickly and alligning with the runway. I checked on the regs. :) Nope, nothing against slipping with full flaps in the FARs. That is not nece-celery true of the POH.

    Paranoia..

Thanks for the welcome, Geoff :) re other posts, yeah, a lot of Cali city police are like that. Often best not to take the suggested line with them, but just answer their questions. Timothy McVeigh? I'm not in the habit of comparing apples and oranges. You're welcome to your opinion...

The trouble with flying videos on youtube..

Gee, when I looked at the title I thought it was going to be something about the faked stuff on youtube... (My favorite one of those so far: the one about a GA single engine losing an entire wing and landing safely...:goofy:) Music to capture the mood of flight. Hmmm. Doesn't it depend on the...

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

True, I should have specified forward or side slip.

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

I believe I'm missing something here. I've been thinking of it as a situation in which you need to get down, you already have on full flaps which are not doing it, and so you add in the slip to lose altitude rather than going around for some reason. The sort of situation that isn't a great...

    Paranoia..

Sure, we all complain a lot about the ways things have changed, but it's easy to forget some things as time passes too. Like the fact that the 9/11 terrorists learned to fly GA, not ATP. Like the old adage "There are those who've landed with their gear up, and those who will land with it up"...

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

Interesting. My long ago former bomber command pilot/instructor pilot and then civvie instructor, when I told him about the severe slip at the airport that asked me to expedite, asked me if I'd had flaps down. I hadn't. He told me to remember flaps were not the same as spoilers and cautioned...

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

First time I saw it I was the 172 passenger, coming back from a local flight with another GA (noninstructor) pilot and missed what was happening myself until I asked why exactly we suddenly went to yoke far back/throttle advanced/rolling fast but not fast enough for a takeoff after intially...

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

Well, I feel suitably admonished y'all, quite correct that although out of currency I do know the answer (or at the least, thought I did). ;) I believe I needed someone to remind me to focus on that rather than on how much I've lost during the nonflight years. So thank you for the discussion...

Your list of must have books on flying

Speaking of bush flying.... just finished Pioneer Bush Pilot: The Story of Noel Wien by Ira Harkey Gives a nice perspective on what it was like, when 'planes just started out, and so did travel to some parts of that state in certain conditions. Also has a couple of nice reminders...such as...

Is it ever a good idea to sit on the runway after calling departure?

Perhaps this should go in the instructor thread, but it isn't really an instruction question. I am certed single engine land with IFR rating but am working on becoming current again after a long hiatus. It is possible I am misremembering something, laboring under inaccurate perceptions, etc. I...
