What's the best airport in Denver to get to downtown/GA friendly?

We are with Woodlands Revolution Volleyball Club. Our oldest played club for four years and now our youngest (now 12) has played for 2. Our club qualified 2, 12 year old teams for the tour and my daughter is on the second team.

Which club Jason? We are from Houston area and will be in Austin in a couple of weeks for Tour of Texas.

What's the best airport in Denver to get to downtown/GA friendly?

Hmm.. sounds like a volleyball tournament to me. Been there, done that. We used APA a couple of years ago - it was convenient, but definitely a little crazy getting in and out.

    Routing Question

Ran this around another group and there was a notam to expect the routing that I was given due to the superbowl. Still odd to get a fix that is not on a chart a low flying airplane would use though.

    Routing Question

Yesterday I flew back IFR from Fort Worth Alliance (KAFW) to Conroe (KCXO). I got the following clearance. KAFW JPOOL9 departure, ELLVR transition NNEAL CLL TNV KCXO I thought this was strange. Why not just give me the JPOOL9 departure with CLL transition? NNEAL isn't on the departure...

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

Definitely not one of my brightest ideas!

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

They really do a great job. First time I went in there was with my wife. Needless to say, I sure got a look.

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

Love Lulu's! If you continue eastbound from JKA can you get IFR clearance along the shoreline or do you need to route north of the Elgin airspace?

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

Been there a couple of times too, but not much options in town for lunch.

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

That's an option. I usually like to get a little further on my first leg. I've stopped at Jack Edwards a few times and did the walk to Lulu's. Not a bad option either.

    Good stop around Mobile, Al?

Heading from Houston to Orlando in a couple of weeks. Looking for a point about halfway for fuel and food. Usually stop at Crestview, which is very convenient, but have a little more time on this trip and would like to stop for a good lunch. Amy recommendations? I'm open to an airport with...

Flight by reference To Stratus 2 AHRS

Flew back to Houston a couple of months ago and A/P was on the fritz. Ceilings were 500 AGL and set up for an ILS approach. Had never really though about using it but as i was working my scan i glanced down and noticed the airport showing up on the synthetic vision in FF. I have to tell you I...

For those who don't have ADSB......

As stated - I had my head outside right up to that point. Never saw a small helicopter that was pretty much headed right for me - pretty small cross section. How many times flying cross country with flight following or on an IFR plan do you hear a traffic call from ATC and never see the...

For those who don't have ADSB......

Kind of shocked about some of the comments on this. Not looking at it because you don't fly into class B or class C? That doesn't make much sense. 1 year ago - flying in southern Louisiana to a non-controlled field. Was just turning to enter the downwind to the pattern and noticed...

    Six seater planes

Good question! The instructor called it a Saratoga when he checked me out on it but maybe it was a 6? Had club seating, manual flaps, and definitely fixed gear. It's been a few years ago and I'm not as young as I used to be!

    Six seater planes

Similar situation. Family of 4 - we have a 182RG great plane for when the kids were small. But now they are getting bigger. It's routine now for me to leave fuel on the ground to make room for more payload. Not a big deal. With the 182RG, we can put in 800 pounds and still have 3.25...

The trials and tribulations of fuel vs load

Our group shares a 182RG. Our policy is to fill it to the tabs for the next guy. In that plane, that is still 5-6 hours endurance. If I'm taking the whole family - there are times when I need the extra payload and I will pull fuel out. I have 2, 6 gallon fuel tanks and a hand siphon pump...

Austin, TX to New Orleans...need a good midway stop...

The new Galaxy FBO at Lone Star is great with the Black Walnut Café. But as you said, not the best for a halfway point. Beaumont is "okay" Old terminal, but had nice folks there who gave me a crew car to go into town for food last year. Lake Charles? Not sure about the FBO's there.

    Are you using a tablet?

Foreflight Pro (these guys are incredible and just keep making it better and better!) Apple iPad Mini Retina Display Yoke mount (horizontal) Stratus 2 for ADS-B How important is ADS-B? Allmost all my flying is along the gulf coast. Would not think of going most days without some type of...

IFR Proficiency - In a plane that does it for you

IPC's every six months. I do every other one in a simulator and my CFI doesn't let me use autopilot on my IPC'S! I use the AP when I'm actually doing an instrument approach, but with an IPC every six months practicing hands on approaches, holdings, and partial panels, I feel prepared if...
