Static Display “do not touch” sign ideas

Exactly. Having put up with the general public for years putting on athletic events, I can say with certainty that people absolutely, positively, do not obey signs, or even read them. If there is an area you want to keep people out of, you have to put up a physical barrier. And I don't mean...

    Why are Bonanzas so cheap?

There's a derelict V-tail Bonanza at my local airport. I checked it out today, half-thinking that if the ruddervator looked okay I could mention it here and maybe help someone out who needs one. Sheesh--now I know what you guys are talking about. That thing is so corroded I expect it would...

    It is cold

I don't see how you flatland guys can keep track of where you are. California is kind of a goofy place (for many reasons) but it's almost impossible to get lost here. Oh, wait--is this what that "pilotage" stuff is all about? I keep reading about that. Tim

    Why are Bonanzas so cheap?

I think you're right. Apparently the skin is magnesium and not aluminum, and no one has been able to build a non-magnesium replacement that meets the requirements. Tim

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

No, we need more Texans in California. Tim (a born Texan, who just happened to be born in the wrong place)

Starting a plane in the cold

I'm in California, so I don't understand this whole concept of "cold". That said, I'm guessing that if the temp is low enough, the engine oil may be too thick to get pumped? Tim

Calculating the Rent vs Buy equation

There it is. I expect most people who do the math quickly figure out that it's much cheaper to rent than buy. In other words they end up renting airplanes their whole lives, all the while wishing they owned one. Tim

Student pilot flying with Private pilot

The PIC can let a poodle fly the plane as long as he's willing to accept responsibility for the flight. Tim

Is it normal to still have occasional bad landings as a private pilot?

And then there's the old story: "There are three simple rules for making perfect landings every time. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are." Tim

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I guess the McDonald's one is funny enough, and maybe I'm just being stupid, but I don't understand what they were actually trying to say. Tim

    Retirement questions

You need to define "almost". In any event I wouldn't touch my IRA or 401k. I am retired and took socialist security as soon as I could. I poured money into that rathole for years, and I was going to get SOMETHING out of it. Tim

    Christmas prime rib for dinner

When we've had prime rib for Christmas it's always been bone-in. Someone ALWAYS wants to chew the meat off the bone caveman style, and after everything is said and done, we make the dog deliriously happy. Tim

IP's - PLEASE pay attention to your location when making radio calls!

I once traded position calls with another aircraft as we both approached an uncontrolled airport. Would have been more useful if he had been at the correct airport. Tim

Cessna 172 Interior Shops in N. California / Western US

There is a shop at Watsonville that I can recommend. They have done a couple of small jobs for me and made things look much nicer inside the plane. http://www.belardiinteriors.com/ Tim

    Thanksgiving Plans

Just don't tell your doctor you've been eating stuff like that. I think I've seen just about all of Kent Rollins' videos--it's fair to say, I think, that he doesn't make anything that isn't fantastic, tasty, and probably even inexpensive. But lo-cal and lo-fat? Not so much. I especially like...

    Voluntary Surrender Medical

How often do you move? Seems like it would be FAR easier to let your medical expire, even if you have to notify the FAA of your new address(es). I would not want to do anything that makes me stand out from the crowd from the FAA's point of view. Tim
