Oh Deer ... Another Plane Incident

Recently moved my plane to a grass strip I'd flown in and out of multiple times with my neighbor. 2nd flight landing right at dusk. When I lowered the nose after touching down, I saw 4 or 5 deer standing 2/3rds the way down the runway. Luckily, I was able to get stopped long before I got to...

What is it called when your auto transmission shifts down

One automatic in the driveway, the 20 Colorado. Miata, all four bikes, and the Jeep are all manual. We ditched the CVT CanAm Ryker. Boring.

    Fuel Cap...

One of my "Thank god it wasn't me" moments came when a King Air F-90 taxied by with out governor on board. Then stopped. Poor line guy had to run out and put the gas caps back on. He never put them back after fueling, and the pilot missed it too. Guess who saw it first?

    Obscure laws

My wife, the UNLV law grad, found a foot thick book of Oklahoma law dating from 1941. Quickly dropped $25 to buy same. I never saw someone so exited. Jury composition, Oleo laws. Strange stuff indeed.

Anybody with any experience on a Suzuki Boulevard S40?

I'm a little late to this one. Young lady down the road has the S-40. We call it, and her Thumper. 18k miles and no real problems. Loves it.

    Seeking Automotive Help

Used to sell a bunch of the wiring pass through connectors on the NAGS transmissions up to about 08 I think. Second on the connector plate for the solenoids. 9336A is the Mopar tool # for the transmission fluid. Basically a cable style dipstick. Some dealers carry them for shop customers.

    Motorcycle Rant

Me and my friends talked to some 5 to 6k driving age kids about motorcycle awareness last year, plus several trucking companies, civic groups, etc. We had another 8k scheduled this spring, pre covid crap, about that many this fall. I figure talking to others about awareness beats the crap outta...

I told the wife that I would never get a motorcycle...

Best thing about the MFS course is you are using someone else's 250cc bike. My standard advise is to take the course, then go try on all the bikes for size. As far as the wife, my (then) took the MSF course when I took a refresher. It cost $5800 for her to take it. She went out the next week...

    Tiger King, WTF?

Supposedly the Seth Wadley dealerships are selling out of hats because of this. $3k plus worth since Friday.

    Rented/borrowed car insurance claims

State Farm has become the anti Christ.. Progressive ain't much better. Geico has been amazing with my motorcycles but they have increased premiums for the last 3 years, with a new excuse every year. With 7 bikes, that's getting painful. Cars remain the same or drop slightly. On the other hand...

    [NA]Car engine oil

We do. My GMC had the 10k change interval. I bought the Dexos and GM filters at work, changed by one of my customers. Engine is still clean 8 years and 14 changes later. My wife babies the Jeep. She rides her Street Glide harder.

My 2019 Jeep oil life monitor says 8K between changes. Dealer sticker says 5k. Using Mopar branded synthetic.

Most reliable vehicle you've owned vs least reliable

I've sold several 5.0 engines mostly because of oil pressure problems at the 80 to 120k mile range. It seemed like all of them have to have the water outlet (ours included) replaced. I just lost confidence in it after the second time we skirted an oil pressure light. Then it started to use oil...

    A Cloud Nine Transport Video

Ted, your video made my wife's day. She's had several rescues over the years, including the hound dog sleeping next to my Aussie. A friend and co-worker was doing the same thing here in OKC a couple of weeks ago, loading a Merlin with rescues headed north.

Most reliable vehicle you've owned vs least reliable

Owned a bunch of different brands over the years. The standouts were a 79 F150, 300 six, 3 speed on the column. No power anything. Drove the crap out of it. I learned routine maintenance on it. Replaced a thermostat and a rod in the clutch linkage in the 170,000 miles I drove it. Another was...

Best Cruiser motorcycle on a budget?

I agree with the MSF comments. It's not expensive (180 in Oklahoma) Use their bikes and helmets. Once you've done that, sit on all of them. Lots' of Suzuki and Kawasaki 800 and 900cc bikes that aren't to expensive. My kid has a 900 Classic Kawasaki, and she loves it. Cheap to ride, fairly...

    Thinking about buying vehicles...

My daughter is currently in a 2000 Cherokee. Approaching 275k miles. Still original just about everything. (except radiators.) We are tossing around the idea of replacing it, or repainting and refurbishing. I love that she still likes it. Hate that it's going to be a pain to find something...
