    Know anyone with Coronavirus?

My roommate had it, said it was nothing worse than a mild flu. I was with him for the past three days before he tested positive. I never had symptoms, I plan on getting an anti-body test because I’m curious. If it’s as contagious as they say, then I’d be shocked if I didn’t test positive for the...

    Happy Retirement (Delta Mad Dogs)

Also, with Delta scaling back, they won’t need to do certain routes 7-8 times a day out of ATL like BHM, and some of the small southern cities. So, like stated above it will be a mixture of 717, 320’s and 73’s. Before COVID Delta already began serving smaller routes with even 321’s and 737’s...

    The Planes Are Coming Back!

In NY on Long Island, still pretty slow. Hopefully next week the flight schools are given the okay to open up. Some have with very little activity, but June 6th it’s supposed to be Phase Two. The sooner the better I’m looking to rent.

Longer trip starting in the Northeast - what is feasible given COVID (looking for ideas)

I believe the Bahamas will be open July 1st, pretty sure the sandals resorts will be opening too. Exuma is pretty exotic and definitely awesome beaches.

Hypothetical situation - accidentally busting restricted airspace

Definitely fill out the NASA form. I believe ATC has a certain amount of time to file a pilot deviation, so just because there was no phone call won't 100% mean you are in the clear. Usually, ATC will tag your aircraft on radar and see where you land. There is no question you MUST fill out...

Stalls seem less scary after doing lots of them (but not because I'm used to them)

In the small GA aircraft, like the Cherokee’s I used to show my students “the falling leaf” we would call it, who were afraid of stalls. Essentially, a power off stall while holding the yoke back continuous. I liked doing this because the airplane would buffet then recover on its own, all while...

    Course Reversal vs Hold

Not sure if it was answered above, but in a real life situation you’re either going to be getting vectors, which cancels a procedure turn or you’ll be entering from one of T IAF’s. The procedure turn in a real life situation would only be practical if you were coming from the north flying direct...

    My First Solo!

    Congrats! Great video of it.

Does ATC care how you enter a hold?

Believe it or not they couldn’t find the course on the chart. On the Jepp plates the published hold on the STAR wasn’t on the STAR TRACK. The published hold was tucked up in the corner, and I guess the crew had a high workload and ended up flying right over the holding Fix and kept trucking...

If you plan to fly a Cirrus should you train in a Cirrus?

Definitely train in what you’re going to fly, although don’t rely on the autopilot too much before you master the control of the airplane. I’ve heard of and have seen too many student pilots, in SR-20’s using the autopilot before even soloing. Autopilot Is obviously a great tool, but not before...

    Don't you just hate it

I can already predict the winner, The Air Force Academy. Those guys would out compete brand new SR-20’s in the navigation event. They used 152’s, No GPS. Definitely, mismatched avionics wise, but boy can they dead reckon.

FAA reworked the Aviation Instructor’s Handbook

Oh yes, had some local feds quoting the airplane flying handbook from the 60’s during CFI rides, trying to bust guys on maneuvers that aren’t taught anymore.

The FAA switched to common core.

    Left turns easier?

Have you tried a steep turn with your eyes closed?

    Trying not to be discouraged

As quickly as you get the landing technique down, you can just as quickly pick up bad habits. Even at all levels of aviation. I’ve flown with far too many Captains in the past with dangerous landing habits they couldn’t break even after thousands of hours.

    ILS or LPV?

Yes, you’re right. That was a test! You guys are good!

    Funny approaches

so you don’t enjoy, the gate returns, EDCTS, or being number 50 in line??? Cmonnn I’d do anything to have that back again.

Does ATC care how you enter a hold?

Indeed that’s true, but it happens, was definitely a big lesson learned on their part.

    Don't you just hate it

That would definitely be an easy event to judge.
