    *Big* Step-Up Planes?

C182 as a first plane with only 30 hours as a student over the 15 previous years in C150s. Whether it was or not, it felt like a big step for a newbie like myself.

Thanks. The fat tires are fun. No one was around. The place was locked up tight. The owner died some years ago and the place is for sale. The first four pics are Sossamon. For some reason only the first one shows up. Not sure why. If you click the X’s it will take you to my photobucket...

These pics are from the last month or so. This field below is 57NC in Bryson City NC. I would have loved to see this place in its hay day. What a setting for an airport. The busted up old Apache under a rusty hangar is the last remanent of days gone by. A nice wagon stopped by the home...

    Question for winos

If you can get half bottles of Duckhorn you won’t be disappointed. Good stuff... Not sure where you are located but if you have a wine store close, go in and talk to them. They could probably order you what you need in smaller bottles.

A&P/IA Services in Wilmington, NC area

Pilots Ridge is a cool spot. My neighbor just bought a lot in there. You should call the A/P on the field in Wallace. He might be willing to help you. You might also try Duplin County as others have said. What do you fly?

    Hey

What he said. Also, if you are a techie, get the Gleim online PPL training program and go through their modules to the tune of a section a night for 30 days. After a month with consistent practice test scores of 80% and above, you’ll be good to go. The pass rate on the PPL written was over 90%...

    Tailbeacon light & switch question

So this question will show my ignorance and inexperience but oh well. I have the original Cessna pull out switch for my nav lights with two positions. I've honestly never noticed the first position before and have always run it pulled all the way out which lights my wingtips and my rear...

Cross country destinations from Charlotte NC

Marvin was a great guy....he had a nice little personal field just north of KGEV back when I was flying up there 10 or so years ago. As for Ocracoke, I made a couple landings out there yesterday and it’s still closed to tourist from Hurricane Dorian. I think it opens back up sometime next week.

Cross country destinations from Charlotte NC

2nd both of these recommendations and also add 5W4 - Raeford. There's a restaurant onsite. People/skydiver watching is also entertaining. Their twin otter and caravans don't suck either. KMRH - Beaufort NC is also a cool stop on the way to Hatteras or Ocracoke. Nothing onsite for food but a...

I ran this same rabbit about a year ago and ended up with a 182. Very happy with my decision. 182's just seem to be the best value out there in a high-wing and there's a huge resale market for them. 206's although roomier are going to be harder to fly, more expensive to operate, more expensive...

    SkyBeacon vs. TailBeacon?

I went with the Tailbeacon because of the uniformity of having the same wingtip strobes. Either option is hard to beat for the total cost.

Best Cruiser motorcycle on a budget?

You should check out the Yamaha Viragos. I've had two of them (535 & 750) along with a Harley and a number of dual sports. The Virago's were great bikes and definitely in your budget.

    Howdy folks

Hi folks. I'm new to the site and wanted to introduce myself. I've been bumming rides since I was in my teens with various pilots I've known and have spent some time in SW AK working around bushplanes. I solo'd on my 22nd birthday but never finished up for a myriad of reasons. After over a...
