I’m in Nashville TN. None of the steel suppliers carry or even want to mess with 4130 tubing. I’m not trying to buy 100’ of anything. I need a few 10’ sticks of various size. Mail order is extremely expensive to ship and per foot. What do you builders do for tubing?
Looked at a PA-12 today with these. They look like Cessna pedals but there are too many “serrations”. I can’t tell if that “tab” that supports the bottom of the master is built on or fabricated. Anybody got a clue?
Building an Experimental. I go onto FAA’s registration page. I live under a rock I guess. Companies go reserve thousands of N numbers. Then they hold you hostage to pay $3000 for it. I get it. Capitalism… supply and demand blah bla bla. N number registration should be tied to an actual airplane...
A friend of mine has a neat little Champ he’s owned for quite a while. He just got the airplane out of annual last month. I didn’t humiliate him with questions, but the logs were stolen. He’s pretty sick about it and has lost interest in the airplane. I believe his age is also another reason for...
I loaned my 1963 172 Maintenance manual out to a friend. His AP “ lost “ it. He’s willing to pay for the replacement… but after months of looking, we can’t find one. I’ve given up on eBay. I always look there and Craigslist. Yeah I can go online… but it’s nice to have the paper manual. Does...
Went to a buddies hangar today and he’s redone the dash of his experimental “Cub”. He mounted his indicator in the upper left corner. Is it more accurate if it’s mounted in the centerline of the aircraft or does it matter? Trying to get my head wrapped around all of the physics going on there.
My mechanic spotted a place on my Right main hard line that’s smashed. It’s been that way for a while. He suggested that we make a new one. He’s super busy, but said “order the line, we will bend it and be done with it. I’m tasked with ordering the line and whatever ferrules I need. I need to...
Dumb question. Can 28V LED nav lights be run on 12V? I just didn’t know if it was built to take 28V or how that works. Friend has some nice 28V WAT nav/strobes but I’m 12v. Thanks.
Needs to be a Grimes pattern, doesn’t have to be TSO. I see Aero-Lites Evolution strobes look nice, nobody has any actual reviews or information on them. What else out there is an “affordable” NAV/Strobe for a grimes replacement ? Thanks.
Looking at an experimental tricycle gear airplane. A 7.00–6 is a little too tall and a little too fat, and a 6.00–6 seems a little bit short for the application. Is there a tire, even if metric that is a 6 inch wheel that has between these two in height?
I’m confused. I thought this would be plug and play like the tailbeacon. After reading, it seems you have to buy their unreliable AV-30. So was hoping it was just a plug and play dual band adsb out solution.
I saw a set of cool and practical looking vents on knots 2 U. Holy cow, $1400+. Anyway, what are some options that point the air more back towards the pilot? I’ve seen some really nice ones but google can’t seems to find a picture of them. Ideas ?
I have a project that I’m working on and I’m using cherrymax rivets. It’s not structural but I want a good Rivet in it. Can regular pop rivet “pliars” pull a cherry? I only have like 4 to pull.
I’m looking into headsets, and discovered these last night. I have a friend who loaned me some Clarity Alofts to try. I actually might prefer this style over the headset. I’m
Not tall but I hate having a headset on. My big thing is music on long trips is nice. The Clarify music was pretty bad...
I need to be able to hear music in high quality. Meaning, I have. Bose Quiet comfort that I mow with, and they are great. Hood noise reduction and solid music. I love the Clarity Aloft design ( I don’t like headsets) but I think their music sucks from what I’ve heard( pun intended). I guess...
Spare the legalities and such. Will a Cessna 170 door fit up and latch to a 172b,c,d etc era of 172? Looking to helping the local club outfit a Simulator for the local school. They need doors on the 172 cabin. I’m pretty sure they do fit. They still had the small lower hinge on the 172 on this era.
We are about to upgrade to an inertia reel in our 63’ 172. I like the BAS 3 point…. But it’s annoying on the neck after 30 minutes or so. They are nice but they get irritating. I see another company does a 3 point that mounts on the plate by the upper rear door. It’s a 3 point like an automobile...
I was at the airport this morning. Two older guys were debating airworthiness and so forth. The airplane in discussion was a Cessna 140. He kept trying to say he couldn’t install something on it. And the owner kept saying that he could because the airplane fell under CAR… I came home and googled...
