IFR flight video Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Annecy LFLP (France) - TB20

On the whole very rare. In the Sweden area there is a bit of UL94 and UL96 https://www.euroga.org/forums/hangar-talk/5106-ul94-94ul-what-is-it-and-where-does-it-exist But in many countries 100LL is quite rare e.g. Italy. TOTAL tried to split the market here with 91UL, even giving away free...

IFR flight video Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Annecy LFLP (France) - TB20

This shows a bit of IFR in Europe. Not that different from the US. Enjoy Annecy itself is a really classy destination and very recommended for anyone visiting France.

950nm nonstop flight UK to the Alps - Jungfrau Mönch Eiger etc

Thank you all :) This trip would be more risky now, because a week ago the UK brought in a GBP 5000 fine for travelling (or attempting to travel) to a destination abroad, for leisure. The word "destination" has not been defined and nobody wants to be the first to test whether it is on land or...

950nm nonstop flight UK to the Alps - Jungfrau Mönch Eiger etc

Shoreham EGKA to Shoreham EGKA via the Alps, in a TB20. Via Jungfrau, Mönch, Eiger and others. The 950nm flight was done without landing. Flying is 100% legal under coronavirus restrictions but landing away would massively complicate things, with a mandatory 10 day quarantine. The flight had...

A few flying videos from coronavirus-locked-down UK :)

Landing away has been practically impossible for nearly 6 months. So we are popping up for local flights, although per aviation tradition many pilots have bought into the FUD that flying is prohibited (it isn't). A flight over a snowy landscape A flight down to one of the Channel islands -...

Looking for Garmin WAAS GPS RS232 data stream description

After more digging, the spec I am after is the data stream going into an Avidyne TAS6xxA (the version with ADS-B IN). Normally it comes from a TSO C146 GPS (which delivers all the required stuff regardless of whether WAAS is being received) but it can apparently come from a TSO C129 GPS...

Looking for Garmin WAAS GPS RS232 data stream description

Yes indeed. The data stream I am after is probably called the ADS-B OUT Plus. One can also find it over ARINC429, and this should be easier. In the Avidyne TAS6xxA IM there is a list of the ARINC429 labels but I can't find info on how the data is presented.

Looking for Garmin WAAS GPS RS232 data stream description

The older streams are well documented e.g. the Bendix/King "aviation" data stream which comes out of a KLN94. But not the one which comes out of a GNS430W or later. It must exist otherwise e.g. Avidyne could not have made their IFD boxes Garmin plug-compatible. Many thanks in advance for any...

Flying throuh the Middle Ages in Italy

You can get a flavour of European flying from my writeups http://peter2000.co.uk/aviation/ It's not as straightforward as in the US for sure, but it works well if you "pick your battles" and avoid the difficult (or expensive) situations, or if you fly within the "grass strip" community which...

Europe: Shoreham EGKA UK to Aosta LIMW Italy

This highly scenic trip was done under difficult conditions due to CV19, and with the requirements changing daily. Italy required a CV19 test within preceeding 72hrs which was only just possible to organise. It is IFR, with IFR cancellation to VFR for the flight into the Alps at FL130, and then...

    For Sale WTB: Sandel SG102

This is their AHRS product. It would need to be Mod 1 (S/N 2000 onwards) or later. I don't need the MT102 fluxgate as I already have a spare. UK based but can provide a DHL account number to ship on. Any pointers to anyone selling one of these would also be appreciated. There must be quite a...

Europe: Shoreham UK to Tivat Montenegro

I've finally got around to writing up the EuroGA.org meet-up at Tivat, Montenegro. This one has a stop on Brac on the way there and Mali Losinj on the way back http://peter2000.co.uk/aviation/tivat There is a video there of the flight Shoreham-Brac-Tivat, edited to show most of the ATC calls...

Be very careful flying into Germany from outside the EU

The difference is this: how hard is it to find out which US airports have Customs? In Europe, the AIP is the primary source for pilots. The actual primary source is variously buried in national laws and is often out of date. In this case - the AIP was out of date, and - the airport manager...

Be very careful flying into Germany from outside the EU

There is a really atrocious legal case running against a Swiss pilot who landed at a German airport, where the AIP said it has Customs but the primary legislation didn't say that. The AIP is the primary pilot briefing source in Europe, and is government published (a bit like the US AFD) but...

A curious round spot on a valve, IO540-C4D5D

Not sure I could get the endoscope under the valves. How far do they come out? The end is about 8mm diameter.

A curious round spot on a valve, IO540-C4D5D

Yes indeed; that's an excellent example. A fairly round spot in the middle. Thank you. PaulS - the other valves didn't have that spot but then I was using the rubbish endoscope on them. Next time I will do it better... There is quite a lot of skill in getting a good quality image. I think one...

A curious round spot on a valve, IO540-C4D5D

I knew this would lead to the lean of peak discussion :) I am familar with the issues: http://peter2000.co.uk/aviation/engine-management/index.html Anyway, I went back with a better (chinese) scope and a length of 1/16 stainless steel wire and got some pics Closeup: Further back: With...

A curious round spot on a valve, IO540-C4D5D

I also cannot see a washer getting welded there because the valves are covered with an ash deposit. The only chance would be with a brand new engine.

A curious round spot on a valve, IO540-C4D5D

Could one try to scrape it off the valve, with some kind of a bent tool? And then lift it out with a magnetic tool?
