    Piper Cherokee wing interiors

During installation of inspection covers under inboard section of wings just aft of the main spar, rectangular sheets of material resembling roofing felt is glued to lower wing skins. This was obviously done at the factory. Can or should these be removed? They are partially loose and/or...

    Rigging questions

Lots of good advice here for sure. Lots of information in the maintenance manual too. As for advice, figure out how many turnbuckle retainers you'll need instead of safety wire. It's so much faster. I think they're all -1's.

    Rigging questions

deyoung One fellow said to check the ball on a level surface. Good idea. I tried that and had to use a different approach. Lift up the back seat. Lay a long level on the main spar. Jack the wings until the level shows level, then check the ball. When I did this, I found that the instrument...

    Door seals not worth it

Glad to hear that you have good results. I'll keep that in mind for the future. My fuselage mounted seal is original. I do know that it's recommended to coat the seal with silicone grease and wipe off the excess after it's been on for awhile. I definitely think that the seal is weakest along the...

    Piper Access Covers

Yes. Piper SB 1244B called to install kit #665-106, but SB 1304 calls for kit #765-106V. Just gotta wonder. However, both SB's call out an oval of 8"×5.5".

    Piper Access Covers

So, do any of you Piper guys know the difference between Piper Kit 765-106 and Kit 765-106V?

    Cross Reference

Thanks. That's an easy thing to try. It's totally possible that it's not piper specific, as it didn't have a W by it in the parts list. Then again, they didn't include an alternate part number, which is often included with most standards. And I agree that this needs to be "new."

    Cross Reference

I had a bad pulley on my Cherokee trim tab cables. So I got a new pulley but wanted to replace the bolt and the bushing as well. The 63900-21 bushing does not appear in anyone's parts database. Is there a way that I can access a cross reference list to an AN or NSN?

    5606 On Carpets

Ah. The stuff that melts the bottoms off of your boondockers. I can only imagine what it would do to an aircraft interior.

    5606 On Carpets

TomD Just repeating what this young Lt. Junior Grade (framp squadron) said. I'm sure he was just trying to be humorous.

    Rubber treatments

I have also installed the seal that goes on the frame. It works quite well, but does need the silicone grease applied and excess removed. The old seal would literally glue the door closed when parked on the ramp in hot and humid weather. The new one doesn't do that. Try it. You'll like it.

AD 2017-14-04 Did they screw up?

Well hopefully so. After all, nobody feels like shelling out maintenance dollars to take care of conditions that don't exist.

    5606 On Carpets

Very true. Reminds me of the Navy. Had a Navy Aviator that told me he wouldn't fly an airplane without a puddle of hydraulic fluid under it. He said that if it didn't leak, the reservoir was probably empty.

AD 2017-14-04 Did they screw up?

BNT83. That's plain as day to me. 95-26-13 is no longer accessible on the FAA database. However, I'm sure I have a copy. When I find it, I'll post it so people can sense my confusion. Just seems like they took a step back.

    5606 On Carpets

Thanks folks for the advice. My carpets are Navy Blue but to reduce the odor a degreaser seems logical, and of course, Dawn isn't likely to cause color changes.

AD 2017-14-04 Did they screw up?

I couldn't find a service bulletin covering this. Keep in mind that most light planes built prior to the 70's came equipped with rubber(type c) hoses. Thing is that per the flow chart, having type D installed "ends" the AD, but a previous AD covering the same issue put a service life on the type...

    Piper shimmy damper stc

Guess I'll have to check it with nosewheel extended and check for slop. One just never knows. I've a couple of other things to check also.

    New PA28 AD

Obviously they need to meet an AD quota. I'm just waiting for them to write an AD because my '67 Cherokee has two OFF positions. OOPS, hope they aren't reading this.

    Piper shimmy damper stc

Timbeck2. Thanks. Other things have been checked. Some hardware replaced. No change. It's a "little" shimmy, only on landing, and seems to go away if I just tap the brakes. So I guess I'll just let my mechanic do his thing.
