    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

Thanks. I'll start with my avionics shop. We're meeting next week to finalize the plan.

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

Thanks @Dave Arata - how can I confirm this for my case?

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

@jstro - You have the JPI EDM-930, the large one that ACA includes in all new aircraft. I was thinking of the EDM-900, which is the smaller one, better as a retrofit.

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

@Dave Arata - my flight manual says that Ammeter Gauge (amps) is required. Since it would be non-primary in the -30P, does it mean that I need to keep my existing separate primary gauge in the panel?

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

@Dave Arata - these are great options - thanks! Are there downsides to reusing the existing probes? Reason I'm asking is that when I spoke to someone at EI about it their recommendation was to use new probes. Also - what instruments can I remove if I install the CGR-30P? Can I get rid of them...

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

@jstro, would you happen to have a photo of your panel? How do you like the EDM-900? Does it handle all of your engine primary instrumentation? And if you do have a cost breakdown, that would be useful. The shop rate here is $125 - probably just realities of CA pricing. But how many hours did...

    selling old avionics?

Gotcha - thx. Yes pretty funny, but good to know since I’ll be selling some stuff after my panel upgrade in April.

    selling old avionics?

    Why? (honest question.)

    ADS/B + Engine Monitoring upgrade

Looking for feedback on my planned upgrade in a 2001 Super Decathlon. Two main objectives for the upgrade: One is to get panel-mounted ADS/B in/out (I know about tablets, but need panel mounted as space in a Decathlon is limited.) Second is a logging engine monitor to use with Savvy Analysis. An...

Engine Out- Overhead Spiral Down to Landing

Suggest looking for a club that flies Cubs, Champs, Citabrias and the like. These are likely to be more amenable, or may even encourage, grass strips. Such as Aerodynamic Aviation at KRHV. Clubs / schools that have mostly nose-dragger types or lost of glass panels will likely want you to stay...

Engine Out- Overhead Spiral Down to Landing

Unusual attitudes and engine out simulated approaches. Doing it as part of my flight review next week. Probably will go to Frazier Lake (1C9) grass strip. Landing there is like ... buttah. :)

    Insurance advise light twin

You may be right. I have my RV-4 insured with them as well, they were the lowest price then too.

    Insurance advise light twin

Avemco was by far the lowest for my Decathlon. The broker I contacted brought quotes from 3 underwriters for the same tail number. All three were significantly higher, in some cases more than double.

    Insurance advise light twin

I've been debating Cirrus SR-22 vs. twin, so decided to check insurance costs. I currently have my Decathlon insured with Avemco, paying $1700/yr. Both my wife and I are ~220 TT PPSEL, with lots of TW time, no IR, no ME. Here's what Avemco told me: - Cessna 340 - wouldn't write a policy, need...

    SR22 vs Twin Comanche

This is a killer panel. Haven’t seen these on C340’s for $300k. Yup. That’s my (and my wife’s) main worry - that a C340 is too much of a step-up from a single. I need to go and get some time in one. Know of any in Northern California?

    SR22 vs Twin Comanche

At the last June's California AirExpo at KPAO there were a bunch of manufacturers and planes. I remember Cirrus SR-22, Pilatus PC-12, Epic, Cessna TTx, Mooney with 2 doors (Ovation?), and others. It was also a very low-key affair, not crowded, easy to talk to people, easy to get in each plane...

    SR22 vs Twin Comanche

For certified aircraft it’s only Cirrus and Cessna 172/182. My guess is cost and size of addressable market. http://www.brsaerospace.com/certified_aircraft.html
