Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Incorrect doubt; indeed my OP was from 2015 but then I came back to the thread to update on the situation because it's so unusual to come back to a new hobby after this time, and all constructive input is gratefully received.

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Well the topic was really me being intimidated by stalls when I first tried learning to fly, then having a much better experience now, eight years later. But I think some people just read the subject and / or one or two posts. Regarding your comment though, I think the point is that competency...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Well, I quoted and linked the standards document above. I don't know why or why not; perhaps I'm wrong, I'm new to this so please don't take me at face value for chapter and verse. Interestingly, the Pooley's Flight Training Manual does suggest practicing stalls with and without power, clean and...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

I had to bump this one more time... Today was my seventh lesson here, and it was the dreaded stall day. I'm pleased to say that I was able to cause, and more importantly recover, from power-off stalls, so my "stall trauma" is well and truly done with, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Well, it takes two to tango. Of course I've changed, but a different instructor makes all the difference. (And possibly doing a lesson every 1-2 weeks as my schedule suits rather than "having" to do it all in a month.) But yes, I'm looking forward to it this time, even if we don't get above...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Thank you! It feels very different this time and that's largely down to the instructor being thorough in the basics but not moving at too slow a pace. He had me trimming it from the first climb, not something I had covered at all in my few lessons in the US, he went on and on about trimming and...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Well all that was eight years ago, I only bumped the thread to thank everyone for their encouragement, hopefully in the planes I'm flying now I'll be able to hear it!

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

What's up everyone? Well, I just wanted to tell you all that eight years later life took me back to the UK, and following a bereavement I just started studying for my PPL again! I still have my logbook from my Florida "experience" and I'm now four hours in here (the same as I had in the US)...

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

Contacted. I have a lady friend in Miami, and one in Los Angeles too. I feel a bit like a sailor. :D Thanks to everybody for participating so far, I remember from last year, this is one friendly and useful forum. I don't know how else I could have gotten some clarity on the matter.

I got in touch with them. I've never been to Texas. :D

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

Not at all, I stayed in Tampa, a beer in the evenings and an early start to drive to Lakeland. I'll edit the title, didn't meant to cause offence. :)

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

I did, but they were very cool about it, and refunded me pro-rata. Sorry, but I have no inclination to go back to FL for this, it's unpredictable at best.

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

All interesting, I'll check those out. Thanks! And I'm not talking about staying out all night, I can get home by 02:00. ;) In edit: I guess you meant Sierra at Castle. I just emailed them. Santa Monica looks cool, I emailed American Flyers. And in North Las Vegas, I just emailed Elite. Thanks...

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

I should have mentioned that - I am aware of them - the doctor that passed my medical certificate mentioned them. I've already sent them an email - their site doesn't mention how intensive they can get (remember my time is somewhat limited). Can you elaborate on your experience i.e. why I...

International intensive student, FL weather sucked, Phoenix AZ instead?

Hi all, I live in Israel and it's one of my goals to get a PPL, preferably in an intensive course in the USA. Partly for the experience, partly for the lower cost. Due to the timing of the Jewish holidays, I'm usually only able to take a good chunk of vacation time around September-October most...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

So I turned up, and when I met my instructor I told him about my concerns and that I hadn't slept. His response: "Don't worry, we'll do lots more stalls, now let's talk about simulated engine failure". It was then that I decided he didn't "get me", he was more focused on getting me through the...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

To be fair, I have completed the Gleim Part 141 Ground School with good scores. Doesn't mean I remember everything, right? Trying each of the controls, wasn't a part of the first lesson, at least not in and of itself. It was more "take off, go to this altitude, turn this way, turn that way".

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Again, some people say don't look at the ball e.g. Capt. G Thorpe. Again, I have no idea how to keep the wings level when I'm looking at the sky, although people have mentioned peripheral vision. He did a couple, but obviously it wasn't enough for me to "get it". I'm certainly happy to hear...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

I just don't get it, I'm sorry. I thought a fundamental principle was that ailerons control roll, and rudder controls yaw. My instructor mentioned it, he said that when the stall actually occurs the siren stops, and that might make it easier for me to "notice" the feeling of the nose...

Power-on stalls - confidence zero, can't feel them or hear horn

Hi all, Thanks for responding. Some answers to points raised above: Flying a Cessna 152. As for not hearing the horn, I even tried lifting my headset earcup, and it was still really faint. I generally have good hearing. I was looking at the instruments mainly to keep coordinated (keeping...
