My student thinks the DPE said that you DO have to meet the climb gradient regardless if you are 91.

Takeoff mins. The author doesn't say takeoff mins or climb gradient. Mauleskinner, The question was posed to my IFR student on a checkride. I am not sure I am in agreement with what the student remembers the DPE saying. This is why I thought I would see what you guys think. Again, we are...

Correct. Now as a part 91 operator, are you required to meet the climb gradient? Again I'm asking about "Legally", not Safely. I also don't take singles down to mins, or fly around at Class G wx mins. I'm asking a legal question. This was taken from the AOPA article I posted above: "If...

https://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/inst_reports2.cfm?article=6198 here is a short well written article that generated the question after I sent a student on his initial IFR.

You are taking off from a non towered airport IFR. There is a climb gradient for the runway you intend to use. You have no intention to visually climb over the airport and the wx is below the " or 400-2" or whatever is listed. As part 91 you legally don't need to adhere to the gradient...

Different ways of Logging pic time a instructor?

The accident occured in 1992. I wonder what happened to start all of this. Side note: AOPA legal is well worth the minimal cost.

Best plane for both aerobatics and cross country flying

We bought a used 6. It has an IO-320, fixed pitch prop, and tipper canopy. This made the acquisition affordable. After 150 hours we gutted the plane and put in a new garmin panel. Experimental avionics save lots of money. Today we can cruise at 155 TAS on 7.7 GPH. On other days I like to...

    Whoops! -NASA ASRS report

Woops. Pax on board? Long time ago I was a new co-pilot. During takeoff I accidentally touched a break pedal. The captain aborted thinking we blew a tire. After the abort, had to call mx. Woops is right.

Looks like they want an 8710 (I probably wont), emphasis no loss of control / stabilized approaches, and everyone needs to speak English. Did I get everything?

IFR in actual harder day or night?

One word of advice. DO NOT FORGET TO TURN ON THE RUNWAY LIGHTS WHILE ON APPROACH IN ACTUAL. Sucks to pop out at minimums only to see black. I was flying into some western Colorado mountain airport one night. We decided to make an anouncement on CTAF even though we knew there was no way...

IFR in actual harder day or night?

I lost electrical in a Cherokee six one night in imc. Wouldn't recommend it. When we flew 310s ifr in the midwest we used flashlights to keep an eye on the airframe ice.
