    New England to Oshkosh

I think this is the year that I will finally get to make the trip, heading from the New England area to Oshkosh. I'm not too keen on flying over the lake, does anyone have a recommendation on a good rest/overnight stop on the way? Thanks!

AOPA Publishes Return To Flight Guides

I think that's a good regaining currency checklist. I found this advice quite useful from them, too. https://www.aopa.org/-/media/Files/AOPA/Home/News/coronavirus-resources/COVID-19-Flight-Operations-v4-051220.pdf

    Thin Temple Prescription Glasses?

Silhouette is the brand that I use for the flexible titanium "frame". I'm on my second pair, the first eventually broke after about 10 years of use and 3 sets of replacement lenses. Longest use I've ever had out of a pair of glasses. The temples are thin, flat flexible metal strips so they fit...

    [N/A] Chernobyl - HBO Miniseries

I enjoyed the series and also thought that this article (and there are a few others like it) on the scientific accuracy of the series was interesting https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesconca/2019/06/27/how-hbo-got-it-wrong-on-chernobyl/#430601cd9ce8

    Who Flies Real IFR?

I disagree. If you're flying an aircraft (especially single engine) where you are NOT worried that the engine is going to quit or at least thinking about what happens if it does (among other risks that may materialize), then are you really in command of that aircraft?

    New York CITY!

Ross Aviation - West (there are two on the field, West is the only one with Avgas) are the best for small piston at HPN in my opinion. The fuel is usual large airport pricing, and the ramp fee is high but waived if you take a fuel minimum on (7 or 10 gals, I can't remember which). Parking is $20...

Bought my wife a Jaguar XKR - Thinking Involved

Does the diff fluid need replacing? I've replaced the transmission fluid on my 04 XJ twice now, despite that being a "sealed for life" system. It does at least have a mechanism for draining and changing the fluid, but not the diff fluid. (Btw if you're changing the transmission fluid, I...

    New York CITY!

I fly in an out of HPN. If you're staying at Hilton properties on points, my favorite is the Millenium Hilton Downtown, opposite the World Trade Center. Especially if you can get onto one of the high floors. You're right next to all the express subway lines there, and some great scenery looking...

    Curious weather briefing

These two airports are 8 miles apart. I’m not totally sure what to do with this briefing. One reporting 25g50 and the apocalypse and the other reporting 7kt winds with some light showers for the same period. Any thoughts on what might be going on here? Surely forecasts aren’t that precise and...

How much oil burn is too much?

That doesn't sound unreasonable to me. My IO-360 burns around a quart every 5 hours on average, although less as the quantity gets closer to 6 quarts as others have noted above. From the Operators Manual, it looks like the max consumption on the O-540-B is somewhere between 0.78 and 0.67 quarts...

    Montreal?

That's my understanding. The top of Page 1 from the CBP guide has the requirements: https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/documents/CBP Private Air Guide 3 0 (Jan 2015).pdf

    Headsets?

I'd stay with a cheap passive headset to get started and spend the $500-1000 on your training instead. Personally I've owned two David Clark passives in the past and have never had to do anything to them other than update the ear seals in one due to age.

My R182 is now straight legged

I had the same happen to me last year. We tested the squat switch and the pressure switch in the pump, both were fine. It turned out to be worn brushes in the motor.
