Cessna Citation down in Lake Michigan near KMKE

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N550BP You can see a very short line where they went in and out of radar contact.

    EvDO

I once got a signal and talked on my cell phone for about 20-30 seconds in a King Air at 17,000 over Everglades City (which is like all swamp-land).

    Terrible FSS service

Speaking personally, I dont call FSS for the "briefing" but for the flight plan file. I have filed on the computer before and for whatever reason (either my fault or the system) I have not had good luck with it. Plus I believe (not sure) that you must call to file ICAO plans. Can someone...

    Terrible FSS service

ahhh... I have read the horror stories about the new FSS but I had yet, until yesterday, to experience it for my self. St. Pete FSS is the closest to me and on June 1st they started to "switch over." Well on the new system I said I wanted South Florida, but somehow after sitting on hold...

    I Declared an Emergency Today

I'm not going to call you an ass or commend others for calling you it. I think your post was very accurate and well stated. Could it have been written a little nicer? Sure. However sometimes it just needs to be said.

    Rogue Helicopter Pilot complaint

Holy crap. I would laugh, but he's not kidding.

    Pilot-Induced Oscillation

Yes it would, and like I said, I could be wrong about what I said. Others have pointed out some excellent possibilities like it just could be a rookie pilot. I just thought I'd throw the elevator failure possibility out there.

    Pilot-Induced Oscillation

Couldn't this have been an elevator failure landing? It looks like even in the biggest bounces, the elevator does not change positions. The nose goes up, airspeed decreases, then the nose goes down. Not even the slightest attempt to correct. I think anyone who has ever flown anything bigger than...

    Cowboy Pilot

Sorry if this is a newb question... I have been over on the red boards for a while, and was around when J.D. got banned for "name calling" and never came back. However, there has been talk over there that there is more to the story then just that. Something about J.D. being a "fraud". They...

Free hand IFR vs. Auto pilot IFR

Same for me. If I have one, I'll use it. Why not? :dunno: Most of the time I dont have one. :( It dosent stop me from going IMC though.

    Gotta love non-aviatiors

I cant blame him. If I saw the same thing in a military jet picture thats what I'd think it was.

Least amount of fuel on landing?

Depends on what you fly. That would be really bad in a 747 or a full tank in some LSA's. Personally, it depends what I'm flying, how much I know the airplane and how much I know the area I'm in. No less than 15 minutes even if it's just around the pattern in an airplane.

Poll - slip through base and final?

I had a nice chat with Jesse via IM. He and I concluded that we agree. And actually I voted to slip it verse go around. I never said it should not be used. I simply said it should not be a standard maneuver used frequently(except for certain A/C with no flaps or tail wheels where it is...

Poll - slip through base and final?

I am sorry you do not understand. Perhaps with a little more expierence you will get the picture. I am sorry to get into an argument with you and I certainly did not intend to. I'm sure you are a very good pilot. I just hate to see someone be so sure of themself when they are wrong. Keep...

Poll - slip through base and final?

With all respect, you are wrong. First off, if you fly a pattern correctly you can make a normal approach WITHOUT SLIPPING and be able to safely land in the event of an engine failure. Second, it is ATC's job to deal with you. Yes, if there is a fast aircraft on a final and ATC asks you to make...

Poll - slip through base and final?

As others have said, theres nothing wrong with a slip, but if under normal circumstances you find yourself using it consistantly on your approach, something is wrong. It should not be SOP. If it is, you need to work on your approach and patterns a little more. Once you start flying things larger...
