Jet contrails doom ground based telescopes

I'm reminded of a Simpson's episode in which Lisa conspires a plan with Bart to shut the towns power grid down so the whole city can see a Metor shower and again....albeit for a brief time, enjoy the heavens.

    IFR in NC?

I flew charter out of JQF for 3 years, and the 1 thing I learned was in NC you get many diff. types of WX and WX can Stall out due to the MTNs blocking and then Eastern flow from the Atlantic. When that happens....it gets stagnant, foggy, can get ice. I grew up in the Mid West where we had...

    VFR Holding

I used to live in concord, NC and flew many MANY drivers and races both in King Airs and Lears. NASCAR races are VERY busy and congested and I would urge everyone to please read all NOTAMS, TFRS, and ATC Temp Special Procedures, and ESTEMP info. It makes everyones life much easier and SAFER...

Tail Wheel Training....so Do I Need To By Some Ballet Shoes?

Was speaking with someone the other day about tail-wheel airplanes and the complexities of how to teach in them. And it got me to thinking and asking myself some questions and searching for some answers. So I wanted to ask everyone a couple of questions on the subject. WHAT DO YOU ALL...

    Finally, my 1st actual!

Great Story and flight Bill. Brings back many memories for me both learning and teaching. Two memories really stick out in my mind. My first flight in actual and my first flight taking a student in actual. Sometimes you just have to buck up and do it. That was great idea taking your buddy...

    Round the World with Steve

I know he has a CE-750 that he flies and is typed in it. I hear rumors at school from the instructors that he has it stripped down and brags about breaking the sound barrier over the water in it. Heres some info on him and the X: http://www.stevefossett.com/html/main_pages/aviation.html

    'push back approved'

Thank god for Ramp Control at airports like IAD, and IAH. If you didn't have Ramp Control timing, and orchastrating push-backs it would be a free for all! Airport Authorities and Airline's insurance wouldn't like it much either.

    Formula to calculate descent

I began flying the Excel and the X in July of '05 prior to that I was in JQF flying Lears and Kingairs. Got a great job back close to home, with great equipment. The X is really a challenge. I like the Excel its a very capable aircraft, only thing i don't like is the "moving tail" you can ask...

    Formula to calculate descent

Glad it helped Jason. I'm not sure about the UNS-1L we had older models in the Lears and we had our Excel equipped with the Honeywell FMZ to match our X's. Yeah those crossing restrictions can get tricky and thats where the FMS,or FMZ VNAV functions really come in handy but...garbage in is...

    Formula to calculate descent

Great Question Jason! There are several ways to do it and it can depend on the aircraft you're flying and of course you're ground speed. Here are some ways to calculate a nice 3.0 degree descent. Now in the Turbines and the Jets like the Excel and the CE-750 (citaiton X) we use the...
