The right way to fire your CFI

Wow...you went to great lengths to copy every comment I've ever made on here that you apparently don't like...congratulations. Seems like you might need a hobby. Why does it bother you so much that I post questions on an internet forum to get peoples' opinions who have knowledge on a...

The right way to fire your CFI

Actually I made the decision after the last post, this post is more about how to handle it correctly. I apologize if my excessive posting is getting on your nerves. I must have mistaken this for a forum..

The right way to fire your CFI

and that's fine if he did, I think we probably both know it wasn't working out too well, especially after the last flight which I've posted about previously.

The right way to fire your CFI

He does do a lot of ferrying so he's gone a lot for weeks on end. I'd say since May he's been on 4 or 5 different ferrying trips or vacations of different lengths. He's leaving for iceland in a couple days for another ferrying gig. The availability is a legitimate issue, aside from other...

The right way to fire your CFI

I've been training with him since May. We don't have any sort of friendship or rapport outside of the CFI/student relationship. I recently posted about the situation here: http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74101 There was no implied commitment that he would be available...

The right way to fire your CFI

What's the right way to switch instructors? I feel like I should at least talk to the guy on the phone, but I called yesterday morning, no answer, left a voicemail. No return call. Called again today, went straight to voicemail. At what point can I just send him an email and be done with it...

    Your Top Five Worst Flights

I don't have enough hours for 5 horrible flights, although I've got a few already under my belt the worst by far was on one of my first solo flights from KBNA to KMQY to practice touch and goes. I was entering the downwind when I hear the tower talking to another student pilot on upwind. The...

    Grass strip help

what about the turf itself on a grass strip? What do you need to do prep-wise to make it safe to land on? Would it be difficult to do? My in-laws have property in east Tennessee with a beautiful long flat piece of grass that I've thought would be awesome to fly into.

    Franklin, TN

I will tell you this, living in Franklin and having the choice of flying out of KJWN or KMQY based purely upon time en route and rush hour traffic patterns, I've chosen KMQY. I-24 isn't too bad during rush hour once you get out towards Smyrna, and 840 is usually empty.

    Franklin, TN

I live in Franklin...Smyrna is also an option (haven't compared fees or anything between KMQY AND KJWN though, so can't help you there). You would just take I-24 east to 840 west towards Franklin and then get off at Arno and take that to Franklin. Just don't even think about going anywhere...

Follow up from "lost on flight planning" thread

You're absolutely right, I haven't done my part. In my defense though, I have been working through the jeppesen book, but I don't think the jep book does a great job on the cross country piece. Even with that, I could calculate most of the individual items for a XC, like all the different...

Follow up from "lost on flight planning" thread

There are also other instructors I could get with at my current flight school. I have no problem with the school so that is still an option. There are 10 instructors or so, so I have no idea which one to consider. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Follow up from "lost on flight planning" thread

So I've decided to definitely switch instructors, I just need to figure out how to tell my current CFI in a respectful and professional way. I spoke to a friend who recommended a CFI out of KJWN who isn't with a school, so he teaches in his Piper Cherokee...does anyone have any thoughts on...

When do you learn Short/soft field TO/landings

Just curious...At what point in your private pilot training should you be learning short field and soft field take offs and landings? Is that generally a pre-solo, pre-XC, or does it matter at all? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

the Dr. Killer and his TWO fatal crashes...

This is actually how I came into aviation as well. Grew up wanting to fly (dad was an air force pilot), but drifted from it until 9/11 happened. Started flight school (the first time) in 2002.

I'd love to. I need for this to have some semblance of fun again. I'm not looking forward to switching CFI's but the more feedback I get here the more I think I should....ugh. I guess I should cancel my XC with my current CFI for this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
