    Franklin 220HP in a 172H?

I have a friend with a Franklin powered 172B, I've had the pleasure of flying it and I absolutely love the power and performance. Last cross country I flew it on, I was seeing close to 130kts true...fuel burn was about 10.5 gph. It's a great cross country machine and excellent short field...

    David Wayne Hooks Airport

Planning on flying my humble little Chickenhawk to Houston next week. My plan is to fly into DWH...anyone ever used this airport? I'll be arriving Saturday, March 14, and departing the following Friday. Any ideas on how much it'll cost to keep the plane on the ramp? Anything else I should know...

    Toilets on small twins...

I know this has been discussed here before, but I was talking to some friends who mentioned adding toilets to a 340 and Duke. My question is, where the hell do they go? I've been on both aircraft and don't recall there being much room...do they come at the expense of a passenger seat? Confused...lol

    Which P210?

Well, we've decided on a P210...I have my eye on nice '78 model in Tulsa...Our budget is around $175K. Speed and useful load are my primary concerns, so that puts the '81 and '82 models out of the question....the R model is a little beyond our budget. That being said, which P210 would the...

    Airplanes that SMILE! :D

Y'know what I'm talking about, we've all seen them...those airplanes that have cowls that look like smiles...I'll start off the list: anything Cubcrafters Piper PA22 (Tri-Pacer has a Hitler-style mustache thrown in!) What airplanes have YOU caught looking like they're up to no good?? :goofy:

Advice needed: building my own grass strip

I live on a crop field in the middle of Kansas (stereotypical, yes...). This field is ~3000' long and 1000' or so wide. About a month ago, the farmer cut the soybeans on our field, and I have landed my 172 here a few times just for fun. The field is smooth, but there are 30' trees on each...

    Cessna 400

http://www.vanbortel.com/aircraft-for-sale/aircraft-inventory/222/2005-cessna-400 Found this Cessna 400 for sale, my dad and I both think this would be a good aircraft for us (not this exact aircraft, but the 400 in general). My question is, is there anything I need to know about the Cessna...

    Aft CG=higher cruise speed?

I'm heading out for San Antonio on Thursday, forecast to have at least 10 kt headwinds the whole way, and I'd like to save fuel...I'll spend the night in Denton on Thursday, and head out the next morning for the hop to 1T8. I'm thinking about throwing some extra weight in the baggage...

Why do our airplanes scare people?

Not sure I understand. I have friends and family who will hop airliners all day long and not think twice, but the second I offer to fly them around in the Skyhawk, they respond with something like "little planes scare me." Not quite sure I understand at all, maybe it's ignorance, maybe it's the...

Furthest FM radio station you've heard...

Just a random, silly question, but I'm curious;) ...I was driving home from work tonight, and I was able to listen to 92.9 the Eagle out of Lincoln, Nebraska...loud and clear. Very strange. Lincoln is a good 200 miles north...I can almost always pick up 106.9 K-Hits from Tulsa, about 150 miles...

Anything better than a nice, long, relaxing flight after a stressful day?

A little background on me: I'm a full-time college student (stressful enough), and in the evenings, I'm a dishwasher at Stearman Bar and Grill at 1K1 on weeknights from 5-11pm (sometimes later). It's a stressful job, but it pays for 100LL. My hangar is literally 100 feet from the restaurant...

    Underpriced planes...

Bellanca Viking comes to mind, fast little economical cruiser...found as cheap as $40-50K...what other planes come to mind as being underpriced or "underappreciated"?

Just why is the Cardinal so slow?

Excuse me if this is a stupid question, I am by no means an engineer, nor do I claim to be, but why does the Cardinal only cruise a few knots faster than the Skyhawk? Cardinal appears much less "draggy," with the strutless wing and lower profile fuselage. It just looks like a 160+ kt airplane...

Got a bone to pick with ClearChannel Media...

Turned on my radio to a nasty surprise this morning...apparently sometime early this morning, ClearChannel switched classic rock station 107.3 the Brew in Wichita to an alternative station, that now plays mainstream rock and pop...Be aware, this is coming to a city near you...if you have a Brew...

    Slow or fast climb...what's quicker?

Hello..I have a question that has been bothering me for as long as I have been doing cross country flights...is it faster to climb up to cruising altitude at a higher climb rate, or is it faster to to slowly climb out at a higher airspeed? Does it make much difference? Obviously when leveled off...

Wichita to San Antonio in a 172

Due to my brother being a college athlete, I have a reason to travel to San Antonio in September. Rather than driving 11 hours or so, I have decided to pack up the humble little Skyhawk for the five hour flight. Now to my question: What is the best airport to use in the San Antonio area? I'm...

    Aviation-related jobs...

I'm wondering what aviation-related job would be best...A little background: I'm 20 years old and going to school weekday mornings. Anyone have any advice? I'm thinking line service would be great...I just need to work around flying machines;)

    MS.760 Paris...

I've wondered about this neat little jet for a while...anyone flown one? How is the performance? Most importantly, how economical (or uneconomical) is it?
