Route suggestions for CA to NC helicopter XC

I assume the OP wants an adventure. Rough guess on cost of trucking it? $10k?

Route suggestions for CA to NC helicopter XC

You want to depart early, afternoons are going to more turbulent. Southern route is generally the best combination of weather and lower terrain.

CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

When I took mine, no phone or other electronic devices, they loaned you a cheap electronic calculator, but that’s over 10 years ago.

Southern Living: Bug Proofing a Home

Probably because wood houses need to be properly ventilated to prevent mold. It’s common to have fans in the crawl spaces. Here in Florida modern homes are built from reinforced brick/cinder block to withstand hurricanes, and should be fairly airtight. We also have lizards to keep down the...

Southern Living: Bug Proofing a Home

You must keep your place immaculately clean, no crumbs, no open packages of food like bowls of sugar or candy. I had ants find their way into cereal, that had the wax paper rolled up and a bag clip, but still wasn’t air tight. No food, no bugs.

EFBs - New Advice From Our Friends At the FAA

An Aera mounted in the panel with a power and RS232 connection allowing it to receive flightplan changes? Or same with Bluetooth connectivity? Panel mounted iPad also with Bluetooth connectivity to installed boxes either directly or via Flightstream? I will ignore this as well:

FIKI cert Mooney adequate for regular winter trips to Newfoundland and Labrador from New England?

Isn’t dual pumps and alternators a requirement for a FIKI designation? There are Mooneys with TKS that are not considered FIKI, I’ve seen Js and Ks with it.

Would you be interested in some form of back-up propulsion for your piston single? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

In my experience, complicated mechanical systems like engines need to be used to insure they work when needed. A backup system better be simple and reliable when sitting for long periods of time.

FIKI cert Mooney adequate for regular winter trips to Newfoundland and Labrador from New England?

Ovations are not turbocharged, but they can fly up to 16-17k, depends on what your desire is for a climb rate.

Cherokee 180 G3X Touch Installation - Has anyone done it?

Are you talking depth or panel area? Garmin has a pdf that when printed will give you exact dimensions of their boxes, then you can tape them to your panel to check if they fit.

New Garmin GTR205/GNC215 COM and NAVCOM radios

I’m guessing it’s the same manufacturing line and they can’t do both at the same time, these are relatively low volume machines. But I agree and would have made sure there was sufficient supply before switching over.

Garmin G5 Yellow Heading & Warranty Saga (retitled)

It’s not, big G only will cover defective items and an hour or two of labor to replace defective items. It’s up to the dealer to fix their own problems. Good help is hard to find. OPs installation was a rather small job, not a full panel upgrade.

Garmin G5 Yellow Heading & Warranty Saga (retitled)

This doesn’t change my opinion, bad connection somewhere is the problem, the shop needs to rebuild the entire wiring harness, could be the CAN bus, power supply, ground, I’d change the circuit breakers too. I had issues with a new Garmin 255 radio, Garmin said radio was fine, shop said it...

I’d post that question on over on mooneyspace.

Mooney Acclaim Still Has a Single Door?

Mooney has inside emergency hatch release to open the cargo hatch. Mooneys can be upgraded to thicker glass and I tried to break it with one of those emergency glass hammers and it did not break, so definitely don’t want to try that.

Would you be interested in some form of back-up propulsion for your piston single? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

From my POH; 36% will keep me in the air going 100+ knots at MGW, since best glide speed is 91 knots then 35% will definitely keep me in the air, I think even 30% will.

Garmin G5 Yellow Heading & Warranty Saga (retitled)

Makes me think there’s a bad connection somewhere, and the extra vibration or attitude is breaking the connection. This would explain why it’s intermittent.
