    Departure frequencies

Thank you for your reply. I know there is New York Approach, but im wondering about what frequencies am I required to be in contact with. I know nearby MMU has New York approach listed as well, but if you are VFR, you aren't in contact with them when you fly in, only the tower.

    Departure frequencies

Hi, For Teterboro (TEB), I noticed on foreflight there's a departure frequency listed, but not approach. My plan would be to arrive from the north, staying under the New York Bravo. Would my first call to Teterboro be the tower like I normally do for class deltas? On the way out, does the...

    What's the airspace below restricted?

Hello Im referring specifically to R-4006 in southern Maryland, which according to the sectional begins at 3,500 MSL. The sectional says to contact patuxent approach prior to entering. I'm assuming I don't need to have any contact with them as long as I'm below 3,500 MSL? Also if you look at...

How long did your oral for the ppl take?

I am a master's student with a 4.0 gpa and I'm struggling mightily with absorbing all the information required for the oral. I've tried using flash cards but it is just too much and some of the technical jargon doesn't stick. I'm using the asa private oral prep book- does anyone have any...

10 years from now, this story will be funny

Thanks everyone for your posts. It's been very inspiring to read the positive ones, and entertaining (but nothing else) to read the negative ones. I appreciate all.

10 years from now, this story will be funny

But right now, I'm facing a tidal wave of embarrassment and maybe more. I've posted a couple other threads here on my struggles for my ppl. Seriously. I'm going to break a record for money/time spent. The latest chapter in this epic battle goes something like this: After soloing with a...

    Still messing up the flare

All who read my previous post misunderstood me, for which I apologize. I know what Vso (40 knots for the 172 S) is and that 70 knots isn't close to it. What I meant was, if my final is a little fast before I cross the numbers, then i'll be a little fast on the round out and when I start my...

    Still messing up the flare

I fear stalling in the flare. So I try to compensate by coming in at 70. Maybe it is way too fast. Though I have had some good landings when I cross the numbers at 70. It's just not consistent.

    Still messing up the flare

Thanks again everyone for the advice. This forum has an incredible wealth of knowledge that never ceases to amaze me. But above that, everyone is very encouraging and positive which I appreciate a lot. something needs to change no doubt. I'm looking for a flight school in NJ with a piper...

    Still messing up the flare

My speed is always 60-70 knots on final. My instructor has said trim has nothing to do with the flare but maybe next time ill try with trim full back. Thanks for the tip

    Still messing up the flare

I'm doing both. What makes it worse is that it is not consistent so it is hard to pin point the issue. Ive listened to advice from everyone on how to correct it but i can't bring it to consistency

    Still messing up the flare

I posted on here two months ago about flare issues i was having. Well, not much has changed since. I'm wondering if maybe i should try another plane besides a 172? I know these are the easiest to fly but a change might be good. What do you all recommend? Ive tried a couple different instructors...

    frustrated

Thanks! I was beginning to think I was the only one going through this. What do you mean by goosing the throttle? It's funny because my instructor told me last lesson that he wanted to do soft field and short field takeoffs/landings with me. I said to him, if I can't even get the normal landings...

    frustrated

I've been considering switching to the 152 from the 172sp. I never anticipated doing this because of my anxieties with old planes, but the effect it'll have on my wallet will make me feel a lot better, particularly now because it seems like I have "stalled" (for lack of a better word) in my...

    so ready to quit

your mentality mirrors mine. After each bad lesson I have I always say I'm going to quit. This is called resignation, and it is one of the 5 hazardous attitudes you learn of when studying for the ppl knowledge exam. I'm not really in a position to give you any motivational advice since I'm in a...

lol yes I think we have the same mind I have this fear that I'm going to stall the plane too high up. I think that's in part why my landings are flat.
