    Shelf life of barreled AVGAS

Many years ago, I bought a 172 that had been sitting in a hangar untouched for 14 years. The owner topped it off when he put it away, and when I got it the fuel level had dropped to 3/4 (evaporation?) The engine started normally, and ran fine on the ground using the old fuel, so I topped it of...

    "Procedure NA at night"

Russ, I argued against this short-sighted policy until I was blue in the face, and it was a part of what drove me to retire at 55. An IAP, with suitable cautionary notes is much better than no approach at all. Give the pilot the information, and then let them make a PIC decision. BTW, this all...

    What's "good moral character"?

That sounds a lot like one that I witnessed, except the pilot mooned a troop of Boy Scouts on the ramp getting a tour.

What do you consider "over the fence"?

    Here's an example: https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/s720x720/1656442_10152468984916292_8938464971848143036_n.jpg?oh=f5293fd468f086fd1d92a9150d64303a&oe=569793CC

    CLASS D "extensions?"

This is a great example of how inept the "stovepiped" FAA is. This should have been vetted thru a combined LOB examination, similar to the Regional Airspace Procedures Team (that, BTW, does not review airspace actions, no matter what the name implies)

    CLASS D "extensions?"

Re. aterpster's link to the FR: The preamble sure doesn't seem to match the legal descriptions that follow. Poor proofreading combined with novice-level technical ability, maybe?? And, With this being a contact tower, and no air carrier scheduled operations, along with a questionable value...

    Visual Descent Point?

Don't know who wrote that, but VDPs were being used BEFORE any GPS approaches were being developed. And, the VDP crossing altitude is NOT mandatory, however, it may coincide with a visual glide slope indicator, and there is a rule that addresses use of a VGSI.

Top Altitude lower than MEA on SID

It really isn't a TERPs issue. It is an ATC issue. The Top Altitude concept was born from confusion on some Denver SIDS that called for a climb to FL230, but had several "at or below" altitudes along the way. In those SIDS, the "top altitude" was just that - the highest altitude an airplane...

Yet another "best" airplane question, but

Look at the possibility of a partnership. You might find an older aviator that has owned for some time, doesn't fly as much has he used to... And, then, along with a plane, you get an ownership mentor.

    Ramp checks at OSH?

There you go, giving the medical wonks ideas...

    F16 vs Cessna 150 collision

And, IMO, that is because the FAA has a policy of withholding safety related information. RADAR data should be openly broadcast via ADS-R, not kept in abeyance for the 'bona fide' ADS-B Out airplanes. IF the 150 had a portable ADS-B In capability, and ADS-B traffic "FIS-B" were openly...

Holy Schnikes! 9 Months to Obsolescence

Many years ago, I had a 1968 182 when the third kid came along. I devised a Field Approval to add a third seat belt in the rear seat. I got it pass the FSDO by adding a placard that stated any rear seat occupant was limited to 100 lbs when all three seat belts were occupied...

WSJ article on ADS-B rollout - AOPA asleep at wheel

John, I would sign your petition, but I would rather see the FAA acknowledge that they did a disservice to the low end of the aircraft spectrum by lumping all users together during the formulation of the policy. The requirements in the MOPS and the TSOs may make sense for a Citation X in the...

WSJ article on ADS-B rollout - AOPA asleep at wheel

The FAA sold this bill of goods when it was justifying the expense of ADS-B during rulemaking. There was NEVER a plan to shut off all RADAR facilities, and I know (without a doubt) that the Class B locations will always (in my lifrtime) have terminal RADAR. Additonally, after the Dept of...
