I agree. A "very senior" (i.e. the oldest, crustiest instructor you can find) might have a different perspective that could unlock the mystery for you. Keep at it.

What would you describe is your biggest problem? Are you pulling up too much and ballooning? Are you landing flat?

FWIW, I scored 95% on my knowledge test and my oral was not what I would consider light, at almost 2 hours.

Agree, I think Stick and Rudder should be required reading...

as I'm sure you're realizing based on this thread, it seems there is no one answer. My CFI just gave me the DPE's contact information and had me schedule when the time came. If I were in your shoes, I'd make a call to your instructor... it's frustrating just sitting around waiting to schedule...

After almost 14 months of starts, stops, breaks, instructor change, scheduling conflicts, and logistical hurdles, I finally passed my private pilot checkride on Tuesday. That is all...carry on with your day. :D
