rust on starter terminals

Were the wrong kind of nuts used here?

Copper or brass nuts. The stud is copper, so a steel (iron) nut will suffer galvanic corrosion on it.

For posterity, the terminals on the SkyTec are M8/1.25 and M4/0.7.
 
Look like the nuts that came with the unit IMHO, just old an corroded. The case of the starter doesn't look any better.

Sigh. It's *right* under the hinge on the cowling.
 
The brass hardware sure is nice. Should I do anything about the superficial rust on the case of the starter?

Not much but do put insulated boots or caps on the hot terminals.IMG_4160.jpeg
